Police in Wakayama said Thursday that a foul odor sickened 41 students and faculty members at Municipal Kasai Middle School on Wednesday.
Police said the incident occurred just before noon when students and teachers noticed a foul smell wafted throughout the building, causing several of them to suffer from headaches and nausea, TBS reported.
Police said they received a report that a man had been spraying a strong insecticide near the school earlier. Fire department officials are investigating whether the strong chemicals in the insecticide were the cause of the odor.

No brainer.
Someone chose a day with enough wind to blow the stuff away from himself, but did he think any further than that?

It is not a middle school, it is a junior high school. A middle school is grades 6-7-8. A junior high school is grades 7-8-9.

all insecticides are poisonous to some degree since they do kills pests and given the right amount will kill humans.

If it is an insecticide, it would be informative to know what was in it and if it is one of those recommended for use by JA.

where I used to reside, a housing location behind the building I was in, had someone doing some kind of work. The chemical smell was so strong it made one dizzy, and affected breathing. Later I saw the fire dept men walking around with mask, and electronic equipment to detect the source of the chemical smell, I think they found the location. It was a strong smell, like crazy glue times 100.

I will be extremely surprised if there is a follow up story (about who or what caused this) hopefully I'm wrong. I hope that everyone at the school has a full recovery!
