Never connect to free wifi without VPN. Hackers love n00bs that connect to "free wifi" points.

True, but even that may not be enough. VPNs generally handle internet protocols. Are we ever sure the other users of the same wifi service can't see our device? I'm supposed to be an IT pro, but I still find there are too many questions I have to ask myself before connecting to someone else's wifi.

Living in fear is not living.

Living without public wifi is not living in fear. Some would say it's living free.

Terrorists love free untraceable wifi, and massive international events.

Perhaps you would feel safer locked in your home under 24/7 surveillance. With police security cams installed inside your house. Living in fear is not living.

So not only do foreigners get practically free Shinkansen tickets, but now free wifi. Would love to be a foreigner.

I agree with the sentiments of above posters.

Also, can we decide on one term and use it? "shinkansen bullet train" is just being repetitive.

Quite insane this is even an issue in 2019 in the largest mega-lopolis in the world, in a country reknowned for it's technology on the eve of the largest event in the world - the olympics.

It gets played up as "Look what we're doing now" instead of "Look what we should have done long ago"

Last time I tried it you had to set up an account to access it, through a very primitive interface. Hope it has improved.

No mention on whether you have to sign up for it or not.
