I these cases police remains iddle for 10 years+

Then they ask population for help setting a juicy reward for it, and case archived.

Would have been beneficial to add information here on JT on how to offer help finding this mans sister.

Some years back there was a similar case of Lucy Blackman.

I can only guess how strong Veron must be, being optimistic and refraining from making any criticism of the Japanese investigation of the case, even when he is surely feeling frustrated and desperate at the lack of success of the Japanese authorities finding his sister.

Wow, just wow!!! Missing sister and there's only a photo of him? Let the public see a photographic description of the missing person please!!!

Well if it would be Tokyo then she would be easier to find as there are cameras everywhere.

It is quite astonishing that you can go 1 hour away from Tokyo and there are no cameras whatsoever.

Why are the police not searching? There is so much information missing, it seems more a promotion for the book than help solving the crime.

There is a bunch more info on Reddit:

Her video on Tiphaine Véron was written in collaboration with Tiphaine's family, so most of the information comes from them. If you understand French, I invite you to watch it.)

A picture of his sister would have been better than the photo of the brother.

Would a photo of the sister really be that helpful? It's not like you'll see her picking up a bento in 7-11.

Maybe not, but someone might remember seeing her somewhere sometime after she went missing from the lodge.

""Veron stressed that his sister loved Japan very much, noting that she studied Japanese and even took notes in Japanese. The brother said he is looking forward to seeing people "who root for Tiphaine" during his stay in Japan.""

So True, the majority of the people who come to visit Japan they do BCZ. they love Japan, they do it out of Love and admiration of the Japanese culture and traditions, So SAD to even think that anyone or any normal human would harm her.

I am hoping that the Japanese police will continue their search for his sister till they have an answer, NOT KNOWING the where about of this lady is the nightmare of every parent, brother, sister, relatives and friends.

As for the family never give up, move to japan if possible and carry on until you know what happned to her.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

yes, how about posting a photo of the missing lady so everyone can see it and may have some clues, so unusual NO PHOTO as some suggested.

8 ( +8 / -0 )

Is this a new way of seeking attention or something? The family actually wrote a whole book over it....... And shouldn't he show a pic of his dear sister instead of showing off the book if he want people to find her?

-4 ( +2 / -6 )

Why not post some pictures of her on the Internet!?

If Damien's sister Tephaine went out of the house she was staying in without her passport and luggage, that means she would be returning soon the same day. So the search should be mostly local. But, as it is now three or four years since she disappeared, there is little hope left that she is still alive. But if she is alive and held somewhere, the publicity from her brother's return to look for her would likely reach her and, she would try to respond.

Very curious. 40 year old woman are really good at not putting themselves in danger.

Photo of her please, not of her brother. Thanks JT.

I have been in Japan (this time) for almost 10 years and have NEVER heard of this story. Never seen her picture, didn't know she was missing, just absolutely nothing. I actually live in Utsunomiya and go to Nikko quite often (every few weeks or so) and there is nothing publicly listed about this woman being missing. Nothing on Japanese television, either. Why are they not making the public more aware of this case? It was 4 years ago. Meanwhile, "Alice Hodgkinson, 28", was found about a week after she went missing. One thing about Nikko is there are thousands of people there during the day exploring. Lots of Japanese, and lots of foreigners just visiting temples and taking pictures. And, just the other day I saw foreigners walking down roads, taking hikes in and around the trees miles from the tourist areas. She literally could have fallen and never gotten back up and nobody would ever know because there are trees and forests and hills everywhere. This whole thing is just sad.

How do you know a crime was committed ?

4 ( +4 / -0 )

Also, to be noted; I'm pretty sure that even if she isn't dead, she has at least overstayed her visa which is an immigration offense so the police should be looking for her anyway.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Perhaps, as many in Japan, she wanted to disappear, which is not uncommon. Not enough info in this article to know her intentions.

Good for him

I hope his efforts bring clarity to the situation

@uaintseeme

You’ve either been living under a rock or haven’t been paying attention. Her pictures are there. In front of the Koban by Nikko station. At least it was there yesterday. It was yellow and faded. And I also remember seeing her missing persons flyer around the Koban in Utsunomiya station a few years ago too. Thing about Nikko is there are a lot of people around the station. The people start to drizzle out the further past Shinkyo Bridge you get. Totally agree with you that she could have fallen and her scent got washed away by the rain, which is why nobody found her.

This is my theory

Looking at the youtube video and reading the Reddit, it seem that Tiphanie was very organized and had tightly scheduled her day. She had listed the Kanmangafuchi Abyss as something to do on the day she dissapeared. It seems as though Tiphaine would have kept to her schedule and gone to this place.

It is just 11 minutes walk from the Turtle Hotel where she was staying. It is likely that this could have been her first stop as it was so close. The abyss is a gorge with fast running water. The sides are steep and very slippery even when it hasn't been raining because of the spray from the gorge.

People often want to climb down to the water to get a shot because of the deep blue colour of the rock pools. Tipahnie was wearing canvas sneakers that would have easliy slipped on those rocks. The river is fairly fast running even in good weather, and it had also been raining 2 days prior.

She suffered from epilepsy and a fall into cold water may have triggered a seizure. Although it was summer this river comes down from the mountains and Niko is fairly high so the water would have been fairly cold.

The argument against this is that a body hasn't been found yet, but it does seem a far more likely scenario than a criminal act

Press 101, missing person 101. You get your message out there, you get people familiar with 'who is missing'. 99.9% of the time they are located by someone who just happens to have a sighting of the person at some point in time and the dots are connected.
