How to create panic -- urge everyone to stay calm. Smart thinking. Another classic remark from a bumbling politician

Interesting. I think the public IS calm and its the government who is acting like Chicken Little. I mean, a little rocket compared to the government's incompetence with TEPCO. Nope, no worries over this.

Perhaps they may have been better off not giving the rocket so much media attention?. Yes deploy all the necessary anti missile units and weaponry .. but maybe don't talk about it as much. Then again, I really hate when governments do that haha. Lose Lose situation. It's probably best in the long run that they keep the public informed. Good on them I say.

Government self-promotion on how "good & necessary" it is to the common people.

fujimura, you feeling pretty important now..............................

well you still AINT!

The public to stay calm???? I don't know anybody who has panicked about this issue. NK is merely testing a satellite rocket. I don't have any problem with that. The only ones who are panicking are the politicians. It almost seems that they want us to be fearful but it doesn't seem to work.

“We don’t believe anything would fall over Japan’s territory. Please carry out your daily lives and business as usual,” he said.

So whats with all the rockets in Tokyo and stuff, talk about mix signals.

So either the government is lying to the people about the threat or has just shown their cards to the world, either way totally stupid.

It's good that he's urging people to remain come while the government and media help feed the paranoia they've been setting out since last month. Who's going to calm Fujimura?

This reminds me of Lance-Corporal Jones' catch phrase, "Don't Panic. Don't Panic," in Dad's Army. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZR6wok7g7do

tmarie: You've got a good point -- I think the mass hysteria the government has tried to push on the people with all the talk of putting interceptors here and there (including the heart of Tokyo!), and threatening to shoot down the rocket, is all part of an attempt to take the focus of their and TEPCO's failings. Now they just have to figure out how to keep the focus off after the launch.

This story is being overdone. So to imitate the Tokyo government. When in danger or in doubt run naked in circles scream and shout!

I hope kim jong un doesnt read JT if he does intend to attack us, since all defense systems are moving west, he now has open card in East Japan. :

Last week: The Sky is falling! This week: The Sky is falling be calm. Main message: You are under control.

It's my understanding that an American RIM-161 Standard Missile 3 can hit anything coming in from space.

Sorry, J-gov't, but the public has grown accustomed to taking care of themselves. Your ineptitude is no secret. Nobody trusts your words of assurance.

This reminds me of Lance-Corporal Jones' catch phrase, "Don't Panic. Don't Panic," in Dad's Army.

The only difference is that Chamberlain's cabinet is still in government.

North Korea has said the launch will send a satellite into orbit to study its crops and natural resources.

They actually have those?

On the matter of staying calm though, I don't see the need for panic. I'm going to go about my usual daily life and I hope that everyone else will too

Remain calm! All is well! ALL IS WELL!

"Chief Cabinet Secretary Osamu Fujimura on Monday urged people to stay calm..."

Mr. Fujimura, please be ensured that in Japan everything is under control & every Japanese is calm..except a few over-excited politicians who stirred up the 'crisis'. Agreed with L. Alberto, NK can hardly pose any tangible threat that is worth mobilizing the SDF in a big way.

Taking the PAC 3 batteries as a test-exercise will undeniably be worthwhile, as everyone knows the defacto threat these toys posed to their wallets (tax-money).

If NK wants to have a satellite to study NK, then why don't they make peace and get that info from those that have the technology already in place! It's a lie! Are we all that stupid? I think not!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I think North Korea should announce the exact date of the launch as soon as they know it. Maybe weather is a factor for the Apr 12-16 dates given but, if it really is a satellite launch, there should be transparency. I know, not what NK is known for but...

The Unha-3 rocket is expected to fly past western Japan

So why are the missiles being set up in Tokyo???? Surely there are better places to put them or is this a case of the politicians looking after themselves again?

I'm more worried about Fukushima....

Yuri, that's funny, that's exactly what my sister says in such situations!

The US is going to intervene with a military response.

http://blog.alexanderhiggins.com/2012/03/29/navy-deploys-sbx1-pearl-harbor-head-north-korea-rocket-launch-108572/

March 29th, 2012

The US Navy has announced it has deployed its most advanced scanning and tracking technology to the Pacific in anticipation that it may need to shoot down a North Korea space rocket scheduled to launch in April.

US officials claim the rocket is an intercontinental ballistic missile and South Korea has warned they will shoot it down if it strays over their territory.

South Korean intelligence services have produced satellite photos which they claim shows that North Korea is retrofitting the rocket to carry a nuclear warhead.

A just released report from Japanese intelligence services, covering developments of North Korea’s nuclear weapons and intercontinental ballistic missile programs in 2011, says North Korea may have succeeded in miniaturizing their nuclear weapons which would lead to the ability to mount them on missiles.

North Korea has announced they will launch the rocket between the 12th and 16th of April between the 7 am and 12 pm, despite objections from the US and South Korea.

The US is making taking all precautions to make sure they will be able shoot down the rocket if needed.

Fujimura urges public to stay calm over N Korean rocket launch

Is this possible in the land of sheeple?

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Right. Everybody stay calm, whilst we wet our trousers and send useless anti missile weapons to shoot down fragments of a projectile tumbling out of the sky that we have no hope of hitting.
