Fukushima Pref to conduct health checks on 2 mil residents

The Fukushima prefectural government said Saturday that it will conduct health checks on 2 million residents to ease their concerns over the effects of radiation exposure.

Checkups will start at the end of June with an examination of 28,000 people in three municipalities nearest the stricken Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant -- Iitake village, Kawamata and Namie.

Local residents have been complaining about the lack of information being given out by authorities on the harmful effects of radioactive substances.

About 90,000 residents of the prefecture have been displaced since the March 11 crisis.

Even though the Japanese Government does checks, nothing much will change at all because they are not really doing anything at all to get rid of nuclear power in Japan. This is just another gimmick to get people to ease their minds while the lies continue about what is really going on in Japan. So sad......

Even now effects of chernobyl are still killing people. Thanks to the nuclear lobby and IAEA the media is asked not to report on it.

I live in Koriyama, and the city actually sent out a questionnaire a few weeks back regarding health issues etc. I asked my students if they had received it, and the ones in the surrounding towns outside of Koriyama hadnt...So Im not sure exactly what is going to happen with the health checks, how they will carry it out etc...

Will take them months to collate the info and even longer to make a decision about what to do with it.

Health checks? I'm guessing they'll test for "radiation exposure" which won't tell real numbers residents have received, and ask health questions, which would only be relevant for people who'd got a huge dose, but will do nothing for people getting a smallish dose over a long time.

You feel Ok? Good. Hanko this. Sugoi Bye bye

They need to do this for everyone from at least Iwate to Shizuoka every year. Checking the people of Fukushima once when they know perfectly well that no symptoms will occur this quickly is useless and deceptive. (I'll grant that the deceptive part is actually useful to the government.)

2 million victims and starting with 28,000...hmmm One shy of 1 million is 999,999 people. Let us say 25000. 1/4 of one hundred thousand. wow...great testing speed

J Govt already knows what their going to find, it's in the air, food, water and earth. We have to eat and breathe in order to live and TEPCO has made the environment in Fukushima inhospitable for the human population and this hospitable environment is not contained the evacuation zones may get wider.
