What do they normally use?

I think the courts ruling of 660,000 yen is fair, may be some one may disagree, as for the funeral directors, I hope that some one has found or made a better way of presenting the remains of a child back to the parents, how they have handled this situation was outrageous and disgusting. I just hope that a better solution is found AND that other funeral homes in this situation can adapt and possibly make improvements, especially in these difficult times.

Yup, I disagree. How can you find it suitable and yet what they did "outrageous and disgusting"? Is that how much such strong feelings on the callous nature of what they did costs? If I honestly believed that is all they could have done, and did their best, I might agree, but it seems clear to me they were just doing the minimal they could and believed they would not be caught. Hence, I do not think it is enough. On top of paying more money, they should permanently lose their license to operate.

Shocking yes, but when you consider it was an infant, and the head and body wrapped so that no one could see the plastic bags, and it only came to light because the parents unwrapped the wrapping that was around the infants head to see their child one more time before cremation. Yeah it was probably shocking.
I wouldn't go so far as outrageous and disgusting. I am fairly certain there was ZERO intent on causing any further pain and their explanation seems plausible yet using an ordinary shopping bag is crass at best.
I think the ruling is fair, as it will at least force this and other funeral operators to come up with a better system of handling infant corpses.

what about distress caused by police having taken the child's body away, and someone performing an autopsy on it?
and what about if the baby's body had been returned to the parents wrapped in bloody bandages?
not taking sides here, but there are all sorts of factors involved....

Isn’t it the norm to wrap everything up in plastic in Japan?

My daughter is 7 months old. My heart goes out to the parents.

Pure, unsupported speculation.
660,000 yen is not enough to deter this kind of action in the future. Ridiculous.

@ yubaru get al - this article is misleading. it's not like they wrapped the infant in a plastic bag. theu used part of a plastic bag under the bandages around his head only. Nobody would have known if they hadn't removed the bandages. so it's not like he was in a hefty bag and put out to the curb
sensei258
if the parents had any real idea what happens at autopsy, that piece of a plastic bag would have been the least of their concerns
sensei258
would they care about a poece of plastic bag if they knew the medical examiner used pruning shears to cut the rib cage out, or removed the heart and sliced it in pieces, or used a saw to cut open the top of their son's skull and removed his brain, or...
