Why do they all seem to have a double / identical name? Rin RIn, Shin Shin, Xiang Xiang

Is it an attempt to maximize the nauseating kawaiiness? ;)

@towingtheline, miffed that little Xiang Xiang is even cuter than a Wallace and Grommit sheepy sheep? You should say xiexie that Tokyo/Ueno gets to have the cuteness for a change, since Adventure World in Shirahama has had a more successful breeding program for a long time now.

Why not call it Guinevere or Tarquin? Why does it always have to be a Chinese name?

The Chinese panda center sets the rules as the panda are only leased from china, and all off-spring are also owned by them.

Even the pandas born outside China?

Seriously, I wouldn't lease one, I'd tell China to stuff it and get another animal instead.

You know that the zoo actually wants to lease it, right? I mean, no one is forcing them to have pandas.

Because they want to make the name easy for China when the panda is given back to them in the future. I remembered going to the Panda House at the Beijing Zoo and all had these type of names.

We shouldn't poo poo the choice of name! She is rather cute.

China uses it's Panda's as a diplomatic tool, and retains ownership of Pandas sent and even born in other countries. No doubt there's a clause requiring Chinese names. Sounds a little selfish? Yes, it's China.

They think they are kawaii.

Billions is spent maintaining these evolutionary deadbeats. There are thousands of endangered species out there that no one spends money on, or even care about, because they are not fluffy or cute but are more important to the eco system than a panda.

They still live in jails with bars and short space.

cant pronounce the name.
