Why does Zoo put GPS device on her back? You don't have to pay reward 500,000 Yen every time she escape from Zoo.

This article made me smile this morning, "steamed" out of the Shibukawa Animal Park, come on, STEAMED this comment is a bit over Exaggerated is it not? more like a slow amble or crawl, or plod would be a better word. if it was a heard of stampeding wilder beast, yes then Steamed would be a good word. as for the 55Kg, I would say it weighed a lot more!

Needs to get out more.

I bet she could take (the current version of) Usain Bolt in a race.

Best luck next time Mrs. Tortoise !
Some remarks :
Why did it take two weeks to find her ? This thing is huge !
How can she escape in the first place ? This thing is HUGE !
Short answer/guess would be cos everything is someone else's responsibility....
wtfjapan
That gives us a radius of 200m. What i want out of every one of you is a hard target search. Your fugitives name is Abuh. Now go get her'........ 5 minutes later. "Sir fugitive apprehended!"
ratpack
Should have called in Deputy Samuel Gerard (Tommy Lee Jones) straight away. 'Listen up people. Our fugitive has been on the move for an hour. Average crawl speed for this giant critter, barring injuries, is 0.2km/h. That gives us a radius of 200m. What i want out of every one of you is a hard target search. Your fugitives name is Abuh. Now go get her'.

I swear that you could not make some of these news stories up in Japan. Plus its the added bonus on being on TV
Stewie
Just wondering how hard it would be to spot a "fleeing" tortoise. A big thumbs up to Abuh.

Yeah, 140 meters in 2 weeks. And yet, that seems to satisfy survival of the fittest.
Bryce Swan
could a GPS device be harmlessly attached to her shell? to avoid future loss?

140 metres in 2 weeks, Ferrari eat your heart out!
Wakarimasen
One case where the hare would have beaten the tortoise.

I really hate cages! Set me free!

"Fled"??
"Escaped" or "Wandered off", for sure, but "fled"?
I mean, we are talking about a tortoise. I don't think tortoises can actually "flee".
Just saying :-)

@lucabrasi
I didn't see any footage, but I'll trust your word for it.
Next mystery : how did she get out in the first place ? For the 2nd time ???
Ron Barnes
Dam they found me.
I was only looking for my mate.

I hope the terrifying, rampaging monster is locked up for good, this time etc.
Clearly, this could only happen in Saitama/Chiba etc.
If he wasn't guilty, why did she run etc?
Joshing aside; welcome home, Abuh.
Julien Léveillé
But now, what will they show on Nihon TV in the morning? Will they find another non-story to send that 'investigation' guy they always send?
lucabrasi
@Bintaro
Look at the news footage. If you were going to design a perfect environment in which to hide a tortoise, you couldn't do better: Dense, barely penetrable undergrowth and thick, low foliage precisely the same colour as the beast's shell....
GW
Were many REALLY even looking!

140 meters in two weeks, that got to be some kind of record !

Good to hear.
That's worth the coerced subscription. /sarcasm
