I think a harsher punishment is called for.

How about jail time for yet another governance oversight
Jonorth
I'm glad and surprised to see some consequence, though it could be harder.

Bad idea.
The colleges will accept wealthy (but slipshod) students, so give the subsidy money to the talented (but poor) students.

The universities listed above have all admitted to committing fraud as well as discriminating against people based on their sex.
Why is a 25-35% cut in state funding for two years anywhere close to an appropriate sanction?
Also, why haven’t any individuals been prosecuted regarding the admitted fraud and sexual discrimination?
Lindsay
What a lame action! Cutting subsidies will only hurt the students. The school will cut back on teachers and cram more students into class to compensate for the loss of subsidies. Put a few of the teachers and administrators in jail for a year or two for their blatant fraud, but don’t punish the victims.

Feels like the people running the universities are the ones at fault but the ones paying for it will be students and teachers. People directly involved should have been indicted and prosecuted.

Typical response.
Have several long meetings.
Come up with a half hearted solution.
Go out for drinks.

Tokyo Medical University is a private school, it should not receive subsidies in the first place.

Even if it is a private school, it's been robbing Japanese society of potential intelligent lady docs because they are ladies. That's sex discrimination and it's wrong. Tokyo Medical University must be penalized for what they've been doing.
Andrew Crisp
These medical Universities had an unfair entrance policy because they were looking at the greater good, that is after graduating female doctors left to have babies some come back others don't, changing this policy could come back to be a problem for Japan in the future.

Foreigners named Andrew tend to have more arrest than foreigners named George, let's cut the visa approval rate to Andrews to 10%.

Same rubbish as taking a wage cut for three months, adds insult to injury!

Not obvious why a university that accepts women but limits their number is bad but a university that accepts women but admits no men is good.
