What a further waste of tax payer money. Those responsible should also take a salary cut for making bad decisions and lack of common sense.

what a mess... you need to be promoting lock down and not go to

This whole thing is completely nuts! Tokyo items are still gonna travel and I have no doubt they will leave a string of hotspots around the country. This is one of those things that cannot be fixed by throwing money at it, as is the norm in Japan.

100%???

sonwe the tax payer get to take it in the shorts while neither the hotel operator, nor the party that cancelled suffer any loses???

Profits are privatized and losses are socialized......

textbook example of how to throw money away trying to force a bad plan.

“Throw in a couple of abemasks and it’s deal!”

It was moved forward without a thorough explanation

What hogwash, it was moved forward because there is a four day weekend coming up and ya'll just figured that people would "sheeple" along and not complain.

It's really about time that people start "complaining" about how Abe has his head in the sand and hold him accountable for all these screwups!

Hardly, my grandkids, and your great grandkids are the one's who will pay for it!

Why does our tax money need to be used again for cancellation fees.....why doesnt JTB, JAL and the rest of amakudari run J-Inc bigwigs benefiting from this just return the money that customers paid? Oh wait, i just answered my own question here......this reminds me of the power companies and N village here..as long as money is rolling in taxpayer has nothing to do with private business operation, once there are some losses or expenses materializing...LDP inc happily shafts the little taxpayer. What lovely system.

Stay at home and take it easy. Order a pizza delivery and watch TV or old movies on YouTube. That’s how COVID-19 era holidays should be.

Another economic masterstroke from our Dear Leader.

My grandchildren yet unborn will be paying for this shambles of failed leadership.

How can you have a personality cult when Abe has all the personality of a spent w@nk?

Fidder's comment is spot on - Those responsible should also take a salary cut for making bad decisions and lack of common sense.

I keep wondering why the public and news media is not commenting on accountability of government to the people

This is going to play into the hands of the "Yakuza" , the Russian Mafia, etc. who will milk this for all they can get.

Sadly very governments will man-up to say they made a mistake and retract a decision... I wont go so far as to say we need a Woman in leadership... Koike is the last choice there, though.... Governments need to be realistic, admit fallibility and adapt quickly.... everyone is smart enough these days to see otherwise.

It's a bizarre notion, isn't it? I remember a few Abe fans here trying to make out as if he was some epic statesman, I suppose they just gave up because even they could see how laughable it was.

Unsure of the awareness of the many small towns facing an abrupt death directly from the effects of domestic tourism down to 0%. Many places upgraded facilities for Olympic year and essentially will go bankrupt without help. While there are obvious risks of Covid spreading (985 people have died from it in 6 months). There is certain death of entire towns/village without government support.

What about those folks who were using this pork-barrel fiasco to visit family and friends in Tokyo but now can’t because of government incompetence?

Will the gov’t pay their cancelation fees, too? Or is this only for the 12% of the country that lives in Tokyo?
