Gov't to unveil era name for new emperor's accession next Feb or later

Next Feb or...latter? How much time do they need. There were secret meetings about this two years ago then closed meetings. And they need a other twelve months of meetings. They really should have a meeting about how to conduct a meeting resulting in a decision.

I think the printers will be most affected by this, since they'll have fewer days to pump out all the orders that will be needed from just about everyone in the country.

I thought one of the main reasons given for not allowing the Emperor to abdicate immediately when he first said he'd had enough was that they had to give the calendar makers and printers of official documents time to adjust?

Now we're being told that people are too stupid to understand that 'Starts on 1st May' means there are not two nengo concurrently in effect?

I notice on Amazon some calendars are being sold that run from April 2018 to March 2019.

There are still many Japanese who still don’t know about Mountain Day in August; and that was announced in 2014 and has been a holiday since 2016. I don’t think they have to worry much about the confusion of two era names.

I like Heisei. I kind of hope they continue the word "peace" in the name. Or "hope." That would be better even. Hope.

I am always a little confused as to why calendar makers will be inconvenienced specifically by this. Surely they would be equally as inconvenienced if the Emperor died tomorrow and would have to print new ones as a result of that?

So what if one half of the year has a different era name to the second half?

They survived the change form Showa to Heisei with out much fuss, I am sure they will deal with this just as well.

Had the emperor passed suddenly how would this be any different? It's a nonsense cover story to delay and punish the emperor for wanting to quit.
