Nearly 100 members of a Japanese Ground Self-Defense unit suffered food poisoning in Higashine, Yamagata Prefecture, defense ministry officials said Friday.
Officials said the troops suffered from diarrhea and stomach aches after eating lunch on Thursday, TV Asahi reported.
All members of the unit were given a medical check-up. Six were hospitalized overnight Thursday but released on Friday morning, officials said.
A health ministry spokesperson said the cause appeared to be a bento (boxed lunch) that was delivered by a vendor from outside the facility.

No need to laugh at this. The Higashine based JSDF Units put in long hours for over a year helping the survivors of the tsunami and searching for the bodies of the deceased.

GSDF buying cheap food from roadside vendors? Home grown bento contents, i hope.

Almost 100 of them!? That's quite a loss for ground force of only 160,000 max. What if these were actually poisoned by members of DPRK or something. What a low sense ofsecurity!
