Wow I’m ecstatic with anticipation as to which one of these unique buzzwords will win. Then we get to watch the 2 hour variety show specials about them!

I vote for GoTo because it gives me great personal pleasure.

It can't be the name of a movie, that's just dumb.
My vote would go to "Abenomask", not least because everyone will still know exactly what it means in several years' time. Many past winners of this will not pass that test.

Suga huh? Then I've probably just ignored it and moved on. I guess that's why I don't remember that one.

My vote: Kimetsu no Yaiba.

2018 was そだねー
2017 was インスタ映え
2016 was 神ってる
2015 was トリプルスリー and 爆買い
If you add in last year's "one team", most of these are sports related. I bet lots of Japanese people have already forgotten them or cannot even remember hearing them in the first place.

I am genuinely surprised that コロナ禍 Corona-ka is not on the list. It's used everyday in the mass media, relentlessly. Do they have to be popular, in the sense of people liking the word?

I think it's stupid to call a proper noun a "buzzword".

How could they leave out "Lockdown"? It is by far the word of the year 2020. Lockdown is the word of the year not just in Japan but globally.

I'm just glad that ridiculously misused/overused "overshoot" got dropped from usage.
