They say "walk softly and carry a big stick". The head of the U.S. Marine Corps is a pretty big stick.

War between China and Taiwan would be waiting for Godot. It’s not going to happen for the same reason the US us not fighting Russia. They are nuclear powers.

China and Taiwan have very strong economical and cultural ties. Many Taiwanese businesses have factories on the mainland, and many mainland companies do business with Taiwan. Many Chinese have families and relatives in Taiwan and vice versa.

Despite what the media tells you about Xi, Beijing does not want a war with anyone. They understand the best way to make money is to have peace and to trade with everyone. War hurts everyone’s bottom line.

When looking back on recent history involving China including its own invasion of Tibet, the Tiananmen Square Massacre, land grabs in the South China Sea, open threats and military displays against Taiwan . . . Well, you’re gambling with the Chinese if you think it’s all been a big joke up to now. Better to be safe than sorry.

Is that a map of Iran in the background of the photo?

this is not news, just US propaganda to give more protection money to their military mafia. Move on, pay up.

Nice to see Japan and the U.S. concentrating on solutions to very real and serious threats.

Japan is a good ally to have in the region.

Japan is key to Taiwan's defense and containing China and North Korea.

I've noticed this too. It annoys me no end. A man in charge of a country's defense should always look sharp & alert. He should always have an air of "if you mess with my country, I will bury you".

When this hegemon, there is a reason its describe as a hegemon, does it, it described it as "bolstering defense"

When others do it, exactly the same thing, it describe it as, "de stabilizing etc etc".

Now you know why, it is doing everything it can to maintain its hegemony. The President is going to the Middle East, meeting the head of State, whom will not be wrong, described as autocrat(generously). Autocracy is one of the reason it used to get others to join its effort to maintaining its hegemony.

Hypocrisies/Lies ?? you decide.

OssanAmerika:

And what's wrong with China preparing to defend itself against all the US military bases around it. US has around 700 around the world. How many does China have? How much is US military spending compared to that of China?

We can all see US tactics by observing the past decade or two in Ukraine. Taiwan is just collateral damage for US.

And what's wrong with China preparing to defend itself against

China is not just defending itself bub. China is claiming vast areas of international waters as their own sovereign territory. China took by force islands that are the sovereign territory of the Philippines and built Chinese bases on them. China asserts that all of the South China Sea belongs exclusively to them and asserts a right to deny entry to the ships and aircraft of any other nation. None of this is backed by international law, including maritime laws that pre-date the founding of the US. China makes claims to Japanese territory that is emphatically not theirs to claim. The US Navy in particular was being reduced in size until China started making these claims. But now the US and other nations in the region see how rapidly the PLAAF and PLAN are increasing is size and sophistication, how China's claims to other nations territories and international waters increase every year and are reacting to this by increasing their own defenses. If Xi Jinping wants to know why the US, Japan, Australia and other Pacific nations are suddenly becoming more assertive then all he has to do is look in the mirror. The right to freely sail through international waters is not something the US will ever surrender to any nation. Won't happen. If China wants to try to close the South China Sea, a sea I have sailed many times myself, then they will be the ones starting the war that will result, not the US. The US and other maritime nations including those in Europe have every right to keep international waters open for commerce.
