Heavy snow and COVID-19 crimp New Year celebrations in Japan

I just clicked on this live cam of the Shibuya scramble. It's horrifying. Thousands of people starting their night out, spreading the virus, out all night because the trains won't run all night.

1300+ cases in Tokyo today. This time next week, that will look like nothing. Great work, folks. A year of caution and you've ruined it. Kiss the Olympics goodbye.

Looking like this might have been the winter to be stuck with the wife's family in Akita instead of New England.

It's shaping up to be an epic ski season in Tohoku.

Crimp new year celebrations? Perhaps, if they had cancelled celebrations they would not have record numbers of new cases.

Japan has been too busy boasting and lathering themselves up about low numbers to control the spread when they had a chance to do so. Now, they have a runaway infection rate and no contingency plan to curb the spread. How wonderful, NOT!

Most NYE celebrations in America have been nixed and there are curfews but that's all. And too many Americans are still partying like it's 1999.

Then they wail and moan when we get several thousand new cases daily.
