While the caseload has eased, the government should start subsiding and supplying hospitals with respiratory equipment and preventive clothing, masks and sanitizers.

Stock up and prepare now rather than wait like they did the last time. Procrastination again may end up killing many next time.

"About 15 percent of hospital beds (the government) secured are being used in the country, on average. The rate stands at 20 percent in Tokyo," said Kato, the minister of health, labor and welfare.

The data shows that only 6.6 % of beds are being occupied at hospitals nationwide, 13.1 % in Tokyo.

It seems a little too early to pop the champagne yet, I noticed case rates are up again last week.

I think we should've just waited a little longer to be safe, nothing has changed about this virus to stop another outbreak. Be safe all!

Speed is right. It's going to come back sooner or later. In times of war prepare for peace, in times of peace prepare for war. Better start ramping up the production of and the training of people who can operate and maintain their often touted ECMO and other respiratory equipment. Get into a round table with Taiwan, Korea and New Zealand and see what they did right to improve on Japan's own contingency plan.

@Kobe White Bar Owner

Yes I am confused too about Oldman13's post.

It is completely different to his ordinary opinion.

People who are sick are too scared to visit hospitals. My hospital is at 60% of normal patients.

doctors only get two masks a week (except operation staff who get unlimited) and doctors don’t have temperature checks when coming to work.

i don’t trust Kato, he studied economics and know zilch about medicine.

In the case of Japan I wonder if we had reacted each year to the flu as we have done with Covid 19 what the results would have been. I can remember over the years going to hospitals and upon entering people were being separated if there for possible flu and on several occasions watching (one time myself and my children) being told the hospital was full and could no longer take anyone even suspected of having the flu and being told to try another hospital! And this was a major university hospital near my home.

Goodlucktoyou

Where is this hospital do you work there to know all this? My mother in law works in an elderly care home, they had no trouble acquiring mask throughout this, all medical grade. And if the hospital is not doing temperature checks that is not a very good or safe hospital and I would avoid it. Even during the regular flu season in Japan it had been standard practice in most reputable hospitals to have staff check their temperate before they go to work and any fevers are to stay away from work.

I've started to see small packs of masks being sold in Stores locally, so that's a change! Haven't been able to find the boxes of 50 disposable yet, but well.
