Sadly here in Japan there have been so many natural disasters over the years that these memorials occur on a monthly basis somewhere here, and because of the beliefs that many people hold, these memorials are important steps in the deceased's road in the after-life, and for those that survived.

We had a big rainstorm here today, biggest this year, and I thought that that bad storm was around the same time. Boy that storm was loud and furious! Watched it from 3 to 4 AM on the porch. Definitely in the top 3 biggest storms I’ve ever seen in my life. The disaster area was right behind us and the worst was a few kilometers away. They’ve done a lot of work on those steel hills, but the scars are still there. So sad.
