Honda develops on-board emergency report system

Honda will start equipping an on-board emergency report system with its car navigation system in the Accord Hybrid that will be out this coming summer.

When an air bag is activated by the shock of an accident, the on-board emergency system will automatically report the accident to HELPNET, run by Japan Mayday Service Co, and police and firefighters will be notified.

Notification will not only be of the accident itself, but also accurate positioning by GPS, which air bag in the car was used, deceleration details, and if the car was subjected to multiple shocks or not will be reported.

With Honda’s emergency report system, information of the details of accidents will be reported more accurately and more quickly.

The system can also be employed in the event of a sudden incapacitating illness or condition.

I wonder if it will also include front and rear facing cameras which record the 30 seconds before the impact?

Check-out the iPhone app DriveMate (CarMate) onboardcam. For .99 it will GPS map you, record video, and have the vehicle speed.

Thanks for that.

Honda's use of technology is among the worst of any of the auto manufacturers. They were one of the first to put Bose stereos into their cars. But they've stopped that, instead of offering only "Honda Premium" stereos - and they apparently didn't learn anything from Bose at all. Among the worst anywhere.

The iPhone Apps are not much use if you are using the phone for something else, which may be a distraction and even cause the actual accident!

A dedicated drive recorder is better.

I wonder if there is an override or cancel facility for those cases of accidental deflation of the air bag?

as long as the security is good, communication is encrypted and they can't remote control the car

I have one and it really isn't, plus it doesn't have the built-in GPS mapping like a phone does. Video and data were separate files and had to be joined. You do need a delux GPS mount and the camera needs space to see forward.

I just got a EM327 OBDii bluetooth module with Torque (Android) that I tried out today. (worked well) http://torque-bhp.com/
