Delta cancelled all its flights today from Narita, I noticed. This is even for routes that other airlines havent canclled. Anyone know why?

American has also canceled flights from Narita.

follow up to my previous comment - whoops i spoke too soon, the centre shifted slightly eastward and apparently has made landfall over Tateyama / Chiba Prefecture. Stay dry and safe anyway, all! :D

Well, here in Shinjuku the winds are blustery, but it still does not have a "typhoon" feel.

Near Shinjuku it seemed like just another rain storm. Not much rain and only a few gusts of not-so-strong wind. As "gokai" said above, sure didn't feel like a typhoon (and I've been in many).

It was a tropical storm, this was never a typhoon.

I don't care what you want to call it, it did a very good job of flattening the garden and fitting my allotment out with horizontal tomatoes. It also blew my daughter's car port away and uprooted a few of her trees. The winds were plenty strong enough.

This morning was something. I got used to typhoons, but this morning it rained almost horizontally due to strong winds.

It's a pretty slow moving storm. I fear many people will be stranded trying to get home from work tonight coz many of the train lines are not running.

That is what happens when it snows very heavily. Some unfortunate old man would fall from his roof while removing stack of snow on his roof which would otherwise collapse his old house.

When it rains very heavily, some unfortunate old man would fall into a river while checking the water level.

Just to be clear, a typhoon is categorised by winds of over 100kph. All storms lose their intensity when crossing onto land. I'm sure the wind gusts over the ocean were above the 100kph mark, making it a typhoon.

Completely agree with gokai_wo_maneku and edojin, didn't feel like a typhoon today. Past typhoons have made our house shake, the wind howl, and the rain pound against the windows. The news of the train that derailed in nearby Higashimurayama came as a bit of a surprise!

Just waiting for a report of a youngster getting injured while trying to surf, sail, waterski, etc., during the typhoon.

It was a tropical storm, this was never a typhoon. Typhoons are defined as 64KT (118km/h) sustained winds and higher. We are not talking about gusts here but sustained wind speeds.

I have been informed by top scientists that Japan is in danger of running out of water. TOP scientists.

And yet I just got a warning on my phone that I am to be ready to evacuate because of heavy rains and flooding.

What do you think everybody? I think the media want me to panic more than they want me to be prepared.
