A hunter was attacked by a bear on a mountain in Numata City, Gunma Prefecture, but managed to scare it off by firing two shots.
According to police, the 39-year-old hunter, who is from Tokyo, was hunting deer at about 2 p.m. Monday when a 1.5-meter-long bear suddenly attacked him, TV Asahi reported. The man said he fired a shot but missed the bear which bit him on the left hand. He fired a second shot into the air and the bear went back into the woods.
Police warned residents to be careful and alerted local hunters Tuesday to be on the lookout for the bear.© Japan Today
