Police said Monday that a husband and wife died after they set themselves on fire on a street in Ichikawa, Chiba Prefecture.
At around 4:45 p.m. Sunday, a passerby called 119 to say that two people were on fire, TV Asahi reported Monday. Police and firefighters arrived on the scene shortly after and extinguished the flames. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene, while the man was taken to hospital with severe burns to 90% of his body. He died early Monday, police said.
The couple were both in their 60s and lived nearby, police said, adding that they found a plastic bottle and lighter near the bodies.

A big, 'OMFG!' To that! I can't believe people would do this to themselves.

This is just crazy! Why would they feel the need to do this? And in public? Side note a passerby most likely called 110 for emergency services. Unless Chiba is in the United States.

What a horrible way to die. Can't believe people would choose it, and no mention of political motivation which is usually behind these kind of stories.
Dennis- 119 is Japan, U.S. is opposite 911

Unusual story to say the least. How are the police sure it's a suicide and not a murder-suicide.

incredibly painful way to go....I wonder what pushed them to this point?

I'll tell you what pushed them, they did it publicly right? Then it's bound to be another protest against Abe's constitution tinkering. We have the recently passed secrecy law to thank, for withholding details which may cast a shadow on the current leadership. This will not be tolerated , especially before this coming election.
