I don't trust them nor will I eat the fish.

It is not just a question of Radiation Level, which is just a quantity. It is important to consider the type of radiation.... Which isotopes are present. Normal Background radiation is largely from isotopes that are not biologically active and therefore irradiate everything generally with low MeV decays.

Many of the isotopes from Fission are biologically active and are drawn deep into the cells of living creatures and can be point source high MeV sources acting right next to or inside of living organisms.

Life on Earth has grown up with the natural isotopes and knows how to exclude them or not use them in sensitive tissues, but these synthetic isotopes have never been on this planet untill 80 years ago.

Living tissues even mistake them as food and incorporate them into cells, then they explode completely without warning. They disintegrate much more energetically than an natural isotopes, and inside very sensitive tissues.

In evolutionary terms life has had absolutely no time to get used to these synthetic time bomb versions effectively disguised as natural elements.

There is no experimental data from previous tests of releasing radioactive waste into a Pristine Planet Earth and seing how it will affect the course if Evolution thousands if years down the line since this last few decades is the first time it has been done.

We have no idea of what changes Nuclear Fall out will make to this planet in future, and all releases are permanently irreversible.

Don't forget that all this is being done supposedly to generate electricity, most of which we use as a luxury not necessity.

We waste most of the electricity we generate...!

So they are sorting thru this stored radioactive water and taking the more radioactive particles (metals etc) out, then mixing the sorted water with other "good" water. =Good reason for the pipe and a better way to monitor the discharge.

You have a natural water movement underneath the land from the mountains to the sea anyway. =Most of the radiation is already being washed out to the sea and being mixed into the ocean.

With all these water tanks, the area looks like a huge oil refinery. =Maybe these tanks can be used for something.

The important question is, to what level will the radiation be reduced?

There is a thing, normal background radiation, which varies all over the Earth. If the radiation level of the water is lower than the average normal background radiation, then it is safe to release. If the radiation level of the water is higher than the normal background radiation, then one can argue that it should not be released.

Can the people treating, testing, and reporting on the treated water be trusted to tell the truth?

And no - the solution to pollution is not always dilution.

Fukushima water release will be under the most scrutiny in the history of human kind!

Most inspections done.

Most media attention. Global news reporting 24/7.

Most countries and governments being involved, having the option to send its own inspectors.

None of that matters. Anything Japan does is wrong if you listen to the narrative being pushed on here.

If you've actually tested the water your self and are qualified to evaluate the toxicity levels and are responsible for reporting under oath then you can inform us of how safe it is.

However if you base you opinion solely on information your fed then how can you be so sure the water is absolutely safe to release into the ocean?

Just because you believe its harmless or because other countries do it doesn't make it ok.

The article says its still radioactive.

Experts agree with Japan.

What Japan is doing has been done before.

Those who still complain about the process even though IAEA. EU. USA all approved of Japan's decision....

Can dig a hole and stick your head in it.

The experts agree with Japan. Not with you and your anti-Japan bias opinion.

The experts will be there to monitor the release.

The experts and not the internet anti-Japan minions, approve of Japan decision and it's plan to release the water.

COVID, massive floods, massive forest fires. What else could go wrong?

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Just turn the tap and wave goodbye..... Dilution is the solution!

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

Every country that has nuclear waste should be able to dump it into the ocean, just like Japan. What could possibly go wrong?

3 ( +4 / -1 )

So as long as it's piped out 1km from the shore, everything's fine and dandy, and transparent. Riiight...

1 ( +3 / -2 )

This is the most ridiculous idea that Japan has come up with. To think they had 10 years to come up with a plan, dumping this contaminated water into our oceans makes me think that the people in charge have no concern for anyone but themselves.

There will be backlash over this naturally or from angry protesters that will in the end - hurt Japans' image forever.

Pointless pushing ahead with this before the election, LDP just wasting tax money again. The Main opposition party is going to make the Fukushima water release to be key issue in general election.

They got my families vote and the vote of people I know.

Refraining from voting if you have the rights to vote is a mandate to let LDP Govern.

Yes if done properly it is safe (have you any idea how radioactive sea water is naturally?) but the way they are going about it is a PR disaster in the making.

1 ( +4 / -3 )

International Atomic Energy Agency was forbidden to enter the critical zone 10 years ago, JP GOV faked data regarding the radioactivity level. and now they want to release pollution on behalf of the world ?!

0 ( +7 / -7 )

It is perfectly safe, and Korea and China should shut up because they dump it also. Plus China dumps everything.

-7 ( +4 / -11 )

And with this, the "but those IAEA guys approved it. It's not our fault, Japan must have listened. Because it is the IAEA!" card can officially be used from now on.

I am for the release of the tritium water (which is harmless if you look at the facts instead of the hype), but I really do not understand this tunnel idea.

The tunnel is an unnecessary expense and a PR mistake because it makes it look like they have something to hide. It is stupid on both counts. The water should be released openly, as there is nothing wrong with it.

-5 ( +8 / -13 )

Where are these 3 people from that have arrived ?

4 ( +6 / -2 )

Ah, so it HAS arrived! (Line 2)

Let us hope that everyone sticks to their side of the bargain and the water is diluted and released within international limits.

(Within the limits that nuclear plants in Russia, Korea, China and Japan adhere to in their regular releases of cooling water to the ocean.)

The three-member team will

spend 14 days in quarantine and then

meet with officials in Tokyo and travel to the Fukushima Daiichi plant to discuss technical details with experts

oh wait....

until Friday, IAEA and Japanese officials said.

...oh, they must mean Friday the 24th....
