I always feel when disasters happen in Kyushu, they live closer to rivers and mountains. Probably, they do not have flat land very much. I am now in Tohoku temporarily. Here, we live in wider flat land and do not have much worries about flooding.

I always feel when disasters happen in Kyushu, they live closer to rivers and mountains. Probably, they do not have flat land very much. I am now in Tohoku temporarily. Here, we live in wider flat land and do not have much worries about flooding.

Its a trade off. Flat land is at higher risk of flooding because it is at lower elevation (as everyone in Tohoku well knows). Land on mountains is safer from flooding but way more at risk of landslides.

I always feel when disasters happen in Kyushu

Kyushu is a one of the best places in the world to live. It really does have everything. But like anywhere, there are trade-offs. Simply avoid buying a house on a flood plain or on an unstable hillside, and the risks will be minimal. I have friends and family with expensive homes on the West Coast, and virtually every year they have to worry about wildfires wiping out their neighborhood, not to mention earthquakes and some landslides.

I have spare rooms but in Kansai. I wish I could help. I saw the images. Be prepared folks.
