No one has. Not a single country has attempted a sneak attack on the US since 1941.

Someone has. 9-11.

@Michael

The Chinese had perfectly good explosives in the eleventh century.

I didn’t claim it was a country. You said no one has. I pointed out someone has. The other part of your quote was left in for context.

I think it's great that this is happening.

Next time the Japanese right-wing nationalists jump up and down about a 'comfort women' memorial going up in another country, I hope they also think of this article.

9/11 was down to Saudi Arabian attackers.

The very people Trump is cosying up and selling weapons to.

Read the quote again, young man. No country has attacked the US.

And read my comment again. I never claimed a country has.

The way I see it if not Nobel someone else would have.

Lots of parralell inventions going on, look at the Japanese plane that(funding permitting) would have flown before the Wright Brothers, etc.

Someone really needs to look up the meaning of genocide in a dictionary..

Let me help you.

genocide

ˈdʒɛnəsʌɪd/

noun

*noun: genocide; plural noun: *genocides

the deliberate killing of a large group of people, especially those of a particular nation or ethnic group.

The nuclear attacks on Hiroshima, Nagasaki (and the firebombing of Tokyo) were acts of genocide.

If you have any doubts as to the repercussions of man's inhumanity to man, I suggest you visit the peace museum in Hiroshima.

An excellent and poignanti idea. The world must never forget.

Would love to visit Oslo again.

smithinjapan, I don't always agree with you but in this instance, wholly and completely agree.

@ Luca - Fair enough. I should have been more specific about what Nobel had invented. Yes, the Chinese had explosives hundreds of years ago. But they were not the type of high explosives invented by Nobel, that were later used to cause the collision or compression of the nuclear triggers used in the two types of bombs dropped on Japan.

@ Smith - Chill dude, I wasn't blaming him for the bombs, just stating that if that piece of the puzzle was missing it may have never happened. I doubt he had a clue about atomic weapons

@Michael

Oh, sure. I wasn’t trying to pick a fight. The explosives the Chinese had were relatively benign compared with dynamite : )

Michael Jackson: "But they were not the type of high explosives invented by Nobel, that were later used to cause the collision or compression of the nuclear triggers used in the two types of bombs dropped on Japan."

And if human beings had brains we never would have climbed out of the mud and started all this. Stop blaming what is not there. He wanted to create a way to stabilize nitroglycerin and use it for commercial purposes, like mining. When he would later be associated with weapons he decided to donate all his wealth to found the Nobel Prize. A FAR more proper application of blame would be to point out that if Japan had not attacked the US, they would not have been bombed, but even that is too simple a statement to make.

I think it's great that they are doing this, but hope they remember it when selective amnesia and calls to "move on" inevitably come into play when Japan's atrocities are called into question again, and also that they point all this stuff out to their PM, who is in the process of taking Japan back to those times.

This is not about the US being attacked by A bombs in the Pacific War.

See, that didn't occur. What did occur is the genocidal slaughter of innocent citizens.

Anybody who thinks that it's a bit of a wheeze should visit the peace museum in Hiroshima.

and that country was?

Read the quote again, young man. No country has attacked the US. Islamic Terrorism is not a country.

Dont worry, it’s early and you haven’t had your cocoa yet..

If Nobel hadn't invented explosives in the first place, maybe there would never have been nukes.
