At least they'll be no shortage of water around this area. It might be a very good and lucrative natural resource in the future.

CrickyApr. 17 12:52 pm JST Global warming, misnomer. Climate change fact. I doubt either are applicable here as its a yearly happening. And its in a snow zone.
Except that "global warming" isn't a misnomer.
The telling information would be whether the snow there is accumulating later and melting off sooner, as is the case in the Rockies, Sierras, Cascades, Alps, Himalayas, etc., etc.

Much more impressive to see would be the machinery they use to blow the snow up to 20 meters high, must be quite powerful!
And for those who haven't realized it yet: this wall is a built-up of snow removed from the road. If you could use a drone to look above and beyond this, there will probably be 'just a few meters' of naturally fallen snow behind it.

Anybody who has a car and wants to to there from Kansai, share petrol, just email me....love Tateyama.

Global warming, misnomer. Climate change fact. I doubt either are applicable here as its a yearly happening. And its in a snow zone. That may change, crowds always there. Could be 2foot of snow still crowds of people shambling along simply because it's a "traditional" thing to do. Oh a Que. must join.....

Looks beautiful but a 17 meter snow/ice corridor that probably has no containment safety systems and looks like an accident waiting to happen. Anybody see an avalanche coming???

"17 metres of snow,no “global warming” in Toyama!"
What. Lol. That's not how science works at all.

In the most earthquake-prone country in the world, forgive me if I don't want to walk among 17-meter walls of snow which are rapidly melting in the spring sunshine.

CaptDingleheimer: LMAO...excellent.
Of COURSE it is. Perfectly safe.

I think the 17m height is due to avalanche debris and snow that has drifted due to prevailing winds. The wide plain at Tateyama, Murodo at 2400m asl, gets about 6-8m.
The snow tunnel has been popular for years with overseas tourists from Taiwan, HK, etc. For many, it is the first time they have seen snow. Access is restricted to special buses and a system of cable cars from the Nagano side that go past what was (pre Three Gorges) Asia's largest dam, so it can be expensive to go. At peak times, the cable car station on the Nagano side will be chaotic.

Nice, on my list to visit, but again.......too crowded. Would love to know how they make this.

Oh no!
Don't let the flat earthers see this picture. They will share out of context and use this as "evidence" that ice walls truly exist circling the edge of the world. lol

Very cool.
Ganbare Japan!
Amazing news! 17 metres of snow,no “global warming” in Toyama! This should be big boom in overseas tourism,if the Toyama-Ken board of tourism promotes it well.
