Still have ZERO plans to send my son back to school in Tokyo! While I get that the economy needs to reopen, I dont see how amusement parks are a "necessity"

Like the choice of the coronavirusy picture.

Cautiously? Didn't Koike lift all virus restrictions in Tokyo yesterday? That doesn't seem very cautious to me.

7 ( +10 / -3 )

The world got 6 month to mitigate, this virus, by Christmas, the virus will spread easily in the cold, when the virus will spread easily, because the air will be thin making the virus, spread easily from the lung

Speed, you beat me to it! There’s no way that was a coincidence!

“Americans may feel happy and go splurging after the lockdown is lifted. But the Japanese mind set tends to become even more cautious about spending because of uncertainties about the future,” Maruyama said.

Which is all the more reason why I’m going to be moving to Japan in the next few years. The job that I have currently doesn’t pay enough for me to afford the move, but once I get that squared away, it’ll be full speed ahead for me to save the money that I need to make the move. Because with statements like these government officials, especially compared to here in the US led by you know who, I can’t wait to make this move!

If you have never kept into the fire from the frying pan then here is your big chance...

Not all restrictions have been lifted. Small print at the end of the memo!

However, indoor venues are allowed to fill only half their capacity, while those outdoors have been asked to ensure sufficient distancing.

The health risks are minimal, reopen the economy and get things going again.

Everyone I know back in the US says they wish they were in Japan. Every American I know in Japan says they're glad they are in Japan right now.....So....what exactly are you talking about?

Larry Flint you are the man. Communism is evil. Communists are here and hiding among us and that's why we must open the economy as soon as possible and get capitalism going. The government cant pay for everything , companies must make money and build the economy which is how capitalism works. Open the economy and no more subsidies.

and those states that opened early in the US Florida Texas are seeing a rapid spike in infections, and Trump hasnt even started his rallies yet, better buckle your seatbelts covid19 isnt done yet

Really? Off the top of my head, I’d rather be in NZ or South Korea than Japan. More testing and fewer deaths.

oh dear covid19 doesn't care what political affiliation you have, communist, capitalist democratic, itll infect you and kill you all the same. One this the virus loves is stupidity. Last I checked China did far better than most democratic countries during this pandemic

wtfjapan communism doesn't work. It failed in all areas and by keeping everything closed and run by socialists is a recipe for disaster.

Neither New Zealand nor South Korea are part of the United States.

Eh? You said people in the US wish they were in Japan. I said I’d rather be in NZ or South Korea. You then answered neither New Zealand nor South Korea are part of the US.

Have I missed something here?

Don't be fooled into thinking Japan is easy. It's not. But I am comparing life in New Zealand. I have to work more to survive here. It's not ideal. We will be moving back to NZ eventually.

rather be here than jobless in the U.K.

Actually the Japanese economy wasn't great even before covid19. Japan is manufacturing economy and heavily depends on exports. The worst is yet to come.

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

Yeah, that picture sure does resemble the coronavirus.

The government has announced 230 trillion yen ($2 trillion) in stimulus, including help for local businesses and cash handouts of 100,000 yen ($930) per adult to coax consumers into spending

How do you spend when you haven't, we the average taro and hanako a printing press like boj nor are we dentsu or receive favors from the Ldo. Still waiting for the 100K almost 2 months after applying. Looks like with things returning to normal there is no rush to disburse the money to people.

When you are ready to make the move let me know so that I can get your "Shin gaikokujin tag ready" and after you have outlived your welcome prepare you to questions like "Where are you from and when are you going back to your country?".

Remember, It is always greener on the other side.

 communism doesn't work.

It's capitalism that isn't working. Indeed, without the government handouts, capitalism would now be in a state of free-fall headed for collapse in Japan, the US, the UK, Canada, etc.

Communist dictatorships, by contrast, are going gangbusters. China and Vietnam are among the world's fastest growing economies with rapidly expanding middle classes and rising living standards. The major capitalist societies are struggling to stagnate.

What are the reasons they are giving?. It might help those thinking of leaving rethink.

Rightly or wrongly, they nearly unanimously feel that it is safer to be in Japan right now, due to the continuing COVID19 case increases and demonstrations back home.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

No one I talked to has said that.

I’m still trying to work out what NZ and South Korea not being part of the US has to do with anything.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

It's capitalism that isn't working.

The current state is the world proves that they both result in the exact same situation: a small number of people at the top who have the majority of the resources and are above the law, while the peons fight over table scraps and face abuses of the law.

It’s clear that extremist ideologies - whether they be extreme capitalism or extreme communism, are only beneficial to the elite. More balanced ideologies, such as social democracy, result in happier more economically stable people, with less corrupt legal systems. None of the best places to live in the world have extremist ideologies.

People who criticize communism out of one side of their mouth while praising capitalism out the other, don’t realize that they’re just pushing an equally tyrannical system.
