Does the empress not deserve a bit more privacy about her health?

So sad. She has led an exemplary life.

She went through so much guano, particularly after she got married. Her "mother-in-law" evidently gave her all sorts of trouble while she was alive, and she supposedly had a breakdown because of it. She became, for quite a time, literally a shadow of the vibrant self she once was.

As she has gotten older, she has regained that vibrant younger self, and as she was always elegant, it made her even more loved by the people here.

She was a "commoner" who truly became royal!

So sad. She has led an exemplary life.

Empress Emerita Michiko has been vomiting blood and losing weight since September, when she had surgery for early-stage breast cancer, but the cause of both remains undetermined, a palace official said on Friday.

Undetermined my butt, the IHA just doesn't want to share the sad news with the people!

I feel saddened that the only way she will ever have her freedom back from these vultures is by dying!

Sorry to read this sad story. Could be bleeding in her gastrointestinal tract caused by contradictions from a blood thinner and other medicines interacting together. Hopefully the cancer did not spread to adjacent organs and this is a symptom. My best wishes and hope she is pain free.

This is sad news. I wish the media would leave these people alone for once. They have served their purpose and done their duty diligently. Time to let them enjoy their golden years without the media. The old adage, "the man's done enough" most certainly applies to both former Emperor and Empress.

I'm surprised media is allowed to post this, most other countries you would just announce the diagnosis and not put out anything symptom related.

But if she's personally fine with it i think it will help give confidence to other suffering from any illnesses.

Some of the readers above seem to be mixing up Empress Emerita Michiko and her daughter-in-law Empress Masako.

More like it seems to me that there are plenty of readers that are unaware of what SHE went through in her life, as a Roman Catholic and first "commoner" to marry a crown prince!

This makes me sad. Best wishes to her and hoping for a recovery.

So gently and politely they are trying to let the population know that she is dying of cancer and is in poor health, let the people down gently as opposed to just come out and say her cnacer has spread and is rapidly killing her.

Oh sweet mother, not more of that baloney. You're more likely to get problems from dairy milk. East Asians have been consuming soy for centuries, and the rates of breast cancer in East Asia are much lower than in western countries.

Are you sure she does not undergo chimio therapy behind her back ? Some insane doctor treat religious woman without telling them the truth or love to do experiment on new drug for "living goddess". I expect everything inhuman when i analyse a doctor mistake case possibility.

Normally, breast cancer implied cancer treatment. And it would be normal to vomit even blood because the whole body tissues are finer and easy to break. Now, they might have made a mistake cutting too much under the arm pit. The body don't manage to recover or fight back the rest of the cancer cells.

This is not as simple procedure they like to let you think. There is often mistakes on the armpit zone hidden from public truth.

I would ask a new surgeon to look at the breast surgery. She might need an "anti-inflammatory" treatment.

But this is only a old memory from a OMS surgeon often called when there is "problem". I know the armpit problem can be dangerous and is often badly cared in surgery in general.

Of course, painkiller must be provided at all time to let the body recover and hormone can be diminished or change. It is important to be acertive with doctors. They are no god.

It's said for a person retired from an important position, but allowed to keep using their title after ceasing activity. Fits the bill, no ? It's of course a Latin adjective emeritus/emerita

Id suggest scrapping treatment in Japan and head elsewhere, but thats due to experiences and observations in Japan when it comes to hospitals. Sounds like they are in over their head to me.
