Broken, hip/femur is not good for an elderly person. They become bed ridden and in many cases develop pneumonia. Hoping she recovers, she will have the best care in country!

Lovely couple with integrity, intelligence, and compassion. I love that they piss off the right wing nuts so much. Get well soon!

Osteoporosis and bone loss is a problem for many elderly. My partner has lost about 20% of her bone. My own are like elephants which I put down to the high calcium intake when we were kids. Having a major operation at 90 is always dangerous so good luck to the empress as we advance.

Wishing her a full recovery.

Her husband's abdication six years ago was opposed by conservative forces. Its why he had to go on tv and address the nation. Had conservatives had their way, she would still be Empress. I say this because the Imperial family faces other challenges, most notably female succession. The abdication showed it can change for the better.

Hard to imagine why anyone would dislike them.

Maybe living in the 21th century and not the middle age has something to do with that?

The institution of the Royal Family is archaic and outdated but this particular couple isn't. They're actually quite progressive.

Elderly Asian women are vulnerable to bone fracture, this is why they should be careful all the time from falls

Unfortunately for women of her age it becomes hard to find out if they got a fracture from a fall or if she fell from having an spontaneous fracture.

Wishing Empress emerita Michiko all the very best and a full and speedy recovery from her successful femur surgery.

I guess there are some dinosaurs out there still furious the Emperor and Empress emerita had the "audacity" to abdicate.
