You do realize that Japan's infection count is now MUCH higher than counts in France, Germany, UK, and elsewhere, where governments are locking down cities. It is the death rate in Japan that has remained low so far, BUT that could change in days if (when) the virus gets into the many elderly care homes here.

after the last 4 day weekend the numbers rose from 17 to over 200 this week and Now there are hundreds of out of town cars and probably hundreds more from flights besieging our town. WTF?

Long drive across Japan today. No way I'm staying cooped up for a whole week off.

I had plans to travel to HK/Cebu and was to leave in 15 minutes today.

I was excited to see HK for the first time. I have just been through a serious breakup and was so looking forward to rewarding myself with first travel experience in six years alone. From HK I was off to Cebu and that got scrubbed too. I will try to fill my days with walks and getting to the beach in a secluded area. I guess off to Nafco or Mr. Max for a beach chair, cooler, and beach towel. Anybody recommend any good kindle reads or books? James Patterson Ali Cross I just wrapped up. Very good book.

The people of Aomori will take a very dim view of a traveller from Tokyo without a mask.

The local hot spring is only 2 minutes' walk from the JR station -- with such easy access for travelers from urban areas, I am debating whether to cancel my weekly bath...

It make me wonder what's going to happen to the train services, when you see a drop of 79% will they start to suspend or cancel some services? I can't see it being profitable when only a hand full of people are on the train.

Mixed messages here from the authorities. In the short term so as to control the upswing I agree with the governors. Longer term tourism can help but it needs to be properly managed, and people need to take personal responsibility to ensure social distancing, avoid crowded transport and places. Be inventive, go where others don’t.
