My company closed the offices again. Official reason: "can't trust the numbers with the low rate of testing."

Feels like we will never go back again full time.

No. 1 obviously not a Japanese business.

No. 2 Thats a ridiculous lie.

No. 3 Your company is going out of business.

@Foreigner In Tokyo

I agree with you, your comments always make sense. But it's a waste of time trying to talk to those who live in denial about the pandemic, vaccinations, etc.

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

Whatever. This guy is so handled. He can barely get two words out of what he really wants to.

I wanna hear him out but ever since these pandemic games, its just like the hands on

this site; scrub erase delete. Repeat. Repeat.

The threads get killed off quicker and quicker these days. Gotta wonder whats the end game?

It's like slots in vegas. Now I gotta save before post just to keep the vibe going.

John Today  03:10 pm JST

what do you mean? You do know that vaccinated are more likely to catch Covid right? Check out the Israeli study.

Thank you for your expertise regarding the Covid. Please explain me why the situation in Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, etc is fine ? Those are countries with 70% of fully vaccinated people.

Glad to have moved from Japan last month!

Congratulations.

If you're not the same person, you're only the second person in this forum I'm aware of who made the jump.

The rest still probably feels they're better of here despite the complaints.

Complaints are natural, nothing wrong with wanting improvements

Turn off the restrictions, turn up the healthcare. Did I hear that some hospitals are refusing treatment for covid suspects or patients? Make that illegal, I'm sure that will help. Expand existing healthcare establishments and, y'know, actually DO something. But let people get on with their lives already. Covid19 is NOT going away.

Anyone ever catch a cold? Sure covid is worse, but we accept that a common cold is part of life. Covid will be seen as the same thing to future generations.

Covid don’t care if you’re wearing cotton masks or them Japanese mask they sell everywhere. N95 or a p100 mask covid dislikes

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

I don't even understand why they call them waves. It's been constant covid for the past almost 2 years.

https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/japan/.

Take a look at the graphs for new cases, active cases or deaths, and you'll see they bear a striking resemblance to waves. Incomplete as they may be because of limited testing, there's a clear trend there.

Notice the angst that this announcement triggers in the unwell. They are addicted to the fear and panic.

Notice that it's actually the other way round. The ones constantly talking about the fear and panic are the ones who really seem to have some kind of obsession with how others see them. Fear of seeming weak. The rest of us know what is needed to limit the spread: changes in behaviour. And that's going to be necessary for a good time yet before a really high percentage of the population has up to date vaccination. Japan really behind the curve here, as usual, as they are slow to acknowledge it needs to include young children. Otherwise they will just be a virus reservoir population to send infection rates surfing upwards as soon as we get a lid on it from the previous wave.

The other thing that jumps out at me, is that the government health spokesperson Omi isn't talking just about bringing numbers down. He seems to be saying that a vastly expanded medical system is needed, which I don't think any of us on here would disagree with, but also seems to be saying that a vastly increased number of hospitalisations is not a problem, as long as the healthcare system can absorb them. How about also aiming for bringing the number of infections right down, and avoid all the suffering, death and risk of permanent health damage?

The only WAVE that is over is the WAVE of testing, which was so small a bathtub makes a bigger wave. Glad to have moved from Japan last month!

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

Notice the angst that this announcement triggers in the unwell.

They are addicted to the fear and panic.

So they cower through the 4th wave and its 99.7%~99.8% IFR, and immediately begin to cower anew when its announced that its over.

Because the next wave with its 99.7%~99.8% IFR is just lurking around the corner. ready to kill them.

You can't talk to them, can't reason with them.

Pointing out that the avg age of a Covid death is in the 80s with 3 or more comorbitities is pointless. Theres nothing that will comfort them.

So they fortify themselves in their 2DKs and wait for the new set of instructions from the TV.

I genuinely feel bad for them.

6th wave starting to swell real soon, covid loves the stupid

Covid doesn't care if you are stupid or smart.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Seems like we have been surfing for a long time , the swell just gets bigger everytime.

5 ( +5 / -0 )

Oxycodin....

The trains are wicked jammed packed during rush hour

Luckily with near 100% of commuters wearing masks and traveling in silence. Trains are not a major factor in transmission.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Thanks to those posting info

(Hito Bito, didou) there maybe others, haven't read much yet.

We need those to add clarity and/context to our own situation

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Time to open up for people that are vaccinated or young and healthy and if you are afraid to go out then just continue to stay home but don't expect us to do the same

Too many businesses have been unnecessarily damaged by the minority.

All of which can be fixed with proof of vaccination AKA a vaccine passport. But "FREEDUMB!"........

6th wave starting to swell real soon, covid loves the stupid

anybody want to bet that there will be a 6th wave and another SOA?

0 ( +5 / -5 )

Yeah and when does the 6th wave start?

when people let their guard down thinking all is well, all becasue theyre tired of a virus that isnt tired of them.

6th wave starting to swell real soon, covid loves the stupid

0 ( +7 / -7 )

No more SOE, immediately. Once all have had the chance to get the shot all restrictions should be lifted.

nope thats not how herd immunity works. need at least 70+80 of the population to be immunised, still another 30million vaccinations to go yet, open up early like was done at the begging of the year will just see another spike in cases and another wave

-1 ( +5 / -6 )

It's not a wave. It's been one big tsunami

8 ( +9 / -1 )

I don't even understand why they call them waves. It's been constant covid for the past almost 2 years.

7 ( +10 / -3 )

Yeah and when does the 6th wave start?

6 ( +7 / -1 )

I think it's all one wave. The media calls it what it is. How many different versions or "waves" of influenza?

Of course it's just one wave.

Maybe some countries who managed to get cases to zero can call the next another wave but for most it's just one continuing wave so far

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Note from Japanese quarantine. Two weeks in my home, with government tracking aps with cutesy names like "COCOA" installed in my phone, making random demands for updates, location, and even facial features (since they took a pic of each passenger prior to takeoff, and will use this image as AI confirmation that I, perhaps one of the most COVID-tested people in the country right now sit inside my house with my negative results and...wait for the dear Government to check on my "health". lol.

From Israel, the World's Booster Shot Capital, where 3 million of its 6 plus million population are already thrice vaxxed....here are some facts you too can find (at the Jerusalem Post and elsewhere):

-Unvaccinated people in Israel comprise 65% of all severe infections in the country and around 90% of all individuals who are connected to extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) machines.

-The rate of confirmed infections from THRICE VAXXED citizens was more than 10 times (11.3) lower among people who received the booster compared to people who did not. The rate of severe infection was close to 20 times (19.5) lower, according to Israeli researchers publishing in the New England Journal of Medicine. (Notice, though, that infections continue, even among THRICE VAXXED citizens? No COVID-FREE panacea here!)

-The country continues to have an average of 10,000 new cases per day, even with some of the world's highest vaccination rates. (Sound Familiar, anyone??)

Oh boy, can't wait for the 6th wave.

The next red herring is coming-what will it be?

-4 ( +4 / -8 )

Over?

based on what?

happy thoughts?

how about shutting it, Omi?

Just keep getting people vaccinated first, before opening up your trap again.

-4 ( +5 / -9 )

If the virus was so bad the half of Tokyo population would have died. The trains are wicked jammed packed during rush hour so the wave can only get better

3 ( +9 / -6 )

The good thing about the later waves is that they make the earlier waves – do you know the ones we were also worried about- seen insignificantly small.

5 ( +6 / -1 )

Next week's "silver week" will be the incubator for the next wave. See how much traffic moves through the airports and train stations.

completely forgot about silver week.

fingers crossed

Next week's "silver week" will be the incubator for the next wave. See how much traffic moves through the airports and train stations.

3 ( +10 / -7 )

Reduced foot traffic in the middle of a Taifu is quite normal.

-6 ( +2 / -8 )

peaking to the House of Councillors' health committee, Omi attributed the downtrend in infections to a "combination of factors," namely the progress of vaccinations, reduced foot traffic, suspension of alcohol in dining establishments and high rate of mask-wearing.

Oh and please don't forget also "wearing a blue T-shirt on Sunday and Wednesday" and "walking with the sun in your back after 6pm".

2 ( +7 / -5 )

Open the pubs!!!

Time to PARTY!!!!

-6 ( +17 / -23 )

Peak only passed.

Number of new cases are almost same to peak of fourth wave.

Japan's insufficient test system cannot find asymptom patients, cannot decrease infection drastically.

Nationalistic politicians who want to prioritize economy than safe of people always expect end of corona virus, try to hurry to ease restriction, it become trigger of next wave.

2 ( +14 / -12 )

Proceed cautiously its not really over yet !!

Announcement like this too soon could trigger the next wave of infections.

-5 ( +7 / -12 )

What about the 7th wave? C'mon, Greek alphabet is making a solid comeback.

8 ( +10 / -2 )

5th is considered to be over, we need to ready for 6th one? Usually when one wave is over they will try to make everything like normal that's where another new wave is coming.

-1 ( +10 / -11 )

Positive news at last, but never let our guard down. It's time to move forward again and get the economy back up.
