A sign of the times which shows Japan is less and less of a production hub…
Zaphod
Also demonstrates how all "green" schemes turn out to be more production in China.

But China only copies!!!!! 笑
Meiyouwenti
Chinese-made tram system? One thing is certain. If deadly accidents occurred, the manufacturer would not take responsibility.
browny1
deanzazzr - what production system did China copy to develop/produce the ART road tram?
Are there some operating somewhere?
deanzaZZR
@browny1 笑 is lol in Chinese and Japanese. It is sarcasm and I am sure a Chinese company will never get this kind of contract. Rules based international order 笑
V Campbell
Number 1: No, no, no, no and NO! Number 2: And a Chinese company? See #1.
V Campbell
Why not just let China sell tickets and concessions at Meiji Shrine?

@deanzaZZR
That's becoming a myth, now China dominate many things. The question is western world and Japan accept that, or still accusing China copying things.

Many Japanese machinery are expensive, without J Govt help it's impossible to market those item outside Japan.

However mount Fuji tram is decided likely by local government, they aware about cost consideration. So only the best price and service will win the bidding, well done.
ClippetyClop
The light rail proposal depended on the system running for 9 full months a year, for 10 hours per day, with departures every 6 minutes to make a profit. It wouldn't have been realistic.
Not looking forward to this being implemented. My costs will be going up and working up there will be more inconvenient.
I'm not even sure that Fuji needs the UNESCO listing. It's not as if it wouldn't be world famous without it.

Japanese authorities seeking to reduce the carbon footprint and overcrowding at Mount Fuji will propose a trackless, rubber-tired tram system made by China's CRRC to transport climbers, a person with direct knowledge of the plan said.
Trams run on rails in streets. This sounds like a cable car.
Neither should be built.
The place is spoliled enough as it is.
Dave Fair
I'm going to go out on a limb here and say this plan will never get off the drawing board! Do you really think that the politicians in Tokyo (Japanese government) will allow even a single yen to go to a system made by the Chinese? And for those of you who don't get it, without Tokyo's support a plan such as this is too costly for the prefecture and/or municipalities to finance themselves.

OK, you give them the money to make up the difference in price then.

Make Japan great again
ClippetyClop
I think you have a mistaken image of what a cable car is. This proposal is nothing like one at all.
WoodyLee
Haters will find a way to vote this proposal down bcz. it's made in China.
owzer
How about - we have people.... W A L K !! It don't get much greener than that!
Please send my Nobel Prize by mail. I'm shy in front of crowds. Thanks! Tell Greta I said hi (and to go back to school!)

Good move,
Now Japan can start moving towards Major manufacturing projects such as Air and space crafts and leave the low tech like Automobiles to China.
OKuniyoshi
This/it, and all things concerning Japan, should be Japan's sovereign decision. Now, its only commercial or political decision?
Nibek32
It’s one thing to buy cheap low quality products, but another thing to ride on cheap low quality China built infrastructure that just may kill you.
ClippetyClop
How do you know that it is low quality? It is already operating in several Chinese cities.
This isn't 1980 you know. China doesn't just make stuff that falls out of Xmas crackers.
Nibek32
Just look at how many fatalities on escalators alone happen there.
I spend a fair amount of time there and speed of construction is valued over safety and quality.
ClippetyClop
Wouldn't it be more relevant to look at how many fatalaties happen on the product that we are actually discussing?
Do you have any evidence that it is unsafe?
indigo
Old Japan can not live without New China. that is the reality!
Pukey2
nibek32:
You're mistaking it with American railway. On average, three derailments per day. And those are the official US stats.
ZENJI
Big, Bad mistake.

A 40% reduction in project costs is great value for money for the consumer and tax payer.
TaiwanIsNotChina
EVs are dirt simple to design and manufacture. When China can figure how to clean up its massively polluted waterways I will say it is becoming a modern country.
deanzaZZR
How ironic can it get? China currently has a space station and is cranking up its civil aircraft industry with the production of the Comac 919.

A good chance for Japan to decide without external pressure and interference. Are we sure there are no national security issues here? Is Japan not afraid of being spied on?
Countries are starting to look at the product itself to make their decisions rather then rely on US negative campaigning.
Finland has taken an unexpected step in the 5G race by selecting Huawei's technology over Nokia, a company rooted in its own country. This decision challenges the bogus security concerns created and promoted by the CIA, as revealed by Edward Snowden, who disclosed that the CIA had hacked Huawei's systems and found no evidence supporting claims of security risks.
saru_au
Bad idea, just use electric trams, way cheaper, way simpler .
Kazuaki Shimazaki
I'm imagining an electric trolleybus, only being automatically guided by magnetic markers.
