He may very well be Oxford educated and worldly, but similar to the UK, the monarchs are far removed from any real political influence. Therefore, I see no advantage to Japan's international relations by having a well-travelled monarch.

This dear lady is a pure joy. She will inspire many throughout her life.

Surrounded by the ultra-conservative Imperial Household Agency, who plan and control his every move, meal and word; he'll find it difficult to apply any part of his so-called global acumen to his role on the Chrysanthemum Throne.

At one point, he shocked the public with his blunt defence of his wife from criticism and pressure, drawing a rebuke from his younger brother and sorrowful remarks from his father.

I do like that he has always been supportive of his wife over royal and media pressure. However, I wouldn't call a person Worldly travelling the way he does staying in the best hotels, most expensive food with bodyguards and drivers always nearby. Us JT posters are the definition of Worldly.

Oxford-educated scholar and Global Outlook? Oxford is a breeding ground for old school, ultra conservative, connected toffs. He should abdicate and become a politician.

Educated at the best schools and worldly - change the emperorship. This is what the press said about Masako-sama and look how the IHA beat the bejaysus out of her.

"He is also very concerned about women's rights ... the idea of empowering women and giving them a position of dignity that goes beyond their place in the traditional world."

So does that mean he'd push for a constitutional change to allow a Woman to take the throne in future ?
