I hope people are keeping their distance.

Restarted Sendai Nuclear Power Station is near the Sakurajima.

Just across on Sakurajima from where that webcam is, the houses all have 30-50cm thick concrete slab shelters to protect from spewed out volcanic rocks. Maybe useful today.

But being away from there is maybe a better idea, especially in case of pyroclastic eruption in which case a slab-shelter just gets filled up with ash.

I know this sounds weird, but when I was there, last year, I was hoping to see something like this. Of course, hiking up the volcano like I did would have been out of the question; I'm not that nuts.

Not sure this even made the news here in Kagoshima. Sakurajima erupts hundreds of times a year. Great for tourists though :)

First explosive eruption in nine months, according to various news outlets.

Found a video earlier, but it took a bit of sleuthing to find.

Is the camera always rolling or did it get triggered? Curious how was it triggered?
