"I literally felt like I was in the film, just sitting here watching it take place in front of me," the 31-year-old American told AFP.

"The fact that we can physically go from Tokyo to Osaka right now and have this whole performance at the same time... I think is really cool and maybe a little bit groundbreaking," he said.

Sounds like the Train to Busan. Could be a hit with the tourists.

Why this is the "top story" is beyond me.

Just from the pictures I wouldn't have guessed they're zombies. Looks pretty normal Saturday afternoon to me.

Why this is the "top story" is beyond me.

I like reading stories like this on a Sunday morning. It sure beats the usual “Man arrested for killing girlfriend’s child”, “Mother sentenced to 3 years for killing baby”, or “Police officer arrested for filming up teenage girl’s skirt” headlines.

Nice. I'm surprised Korean rail haven't been doing this at Hallowe'en every year since the movie appeared. It would be cool to put a warning out on Hallowe'en over the announcement that zombies may be sighted on the service, and have some going through the trains at random. The passengers would enjoy it, even if the eternally grumpy people on here probably wouldn't.

halloween is something you get over by about 9-years old.

-7 ( +10 / -17 )

How dare they have innocent fun???

14 ( +18 / -4 )

Now imagine a dude showing up with a hatchet and start working his way through them. People wouldn't have a clue until it was too late. Get this idiocy off the train!

The killjoy fogeys are out this morning, more mirthless than the zombies.

I kinda miss those days, which weren't all that long ago, when the Japanese didn't know WTH Halloween was.

Only zombies I see walking around here are the ones with their faces in their cell phones.

I feel that both Halloween and Christmas loses their true essence here in Japan. I loved trick or treating as a kid, so much so I did it until junior high and took my friend’s younger sister along to justify my age. Nothing too much about zombies and bloody decorations.

Same goes for Christmas, the decorations and trees are amazing yet we work on the eve and the day and none of the decorations and trees are recycled in my neighborhood.

So I guess I’d love to give out candies for kids instead of riding on haunted trains or drinking in public dressed like whores.

It is so sadly obvious how many commenters have lost touch with their inner child! Don't you realize how quickly this will age you? If you lose that inner child and you have forgotten how to enjoy FUN, I feel very sorry for you. The type of person you are would be so dull and quite the bore! I am 62 and disabled. If I ever let go of my inner child, I would prefer to die because I would become the type of person I truely can't stand. Embrace your inner child and never let go!

In our small community of ~200 homes, we do have a small group of young children who trick or treat for candy. It's kinda sweet.

Thanks for reminding me to buy candy!

@garypen

Yay~ we like big candy bars and if they’re nice, we tell all our friends and brag about the neighborhood : D I would’ve loved to finally be the one to provide but sadly I’m here in Tokyo.

Have fun!! Happy Halloween!

Here in Osaka we call this scene Nishinari-ku.

if you totally lose your inner child regarding Halloween, how can you cope with your child's nightmares??

Most of that small scale, mostly spontaneous, and will be done on Halloween and Halloween only. The distasteful side of Halloween is when it is one big commercial fest done anytime in autumn and with anything remotely horror, or non-horror even so long as its still cosplay. If an event like the story is going to be mega official, mega limited, and mega organized, they should do it on Halloween itself, not two weeks early. This event probably took 30 hankos (people's permission). The "passengers screaming in terror" the story boasts about are all people who booked to ride this one carriage weeks in advance. They were probably told what time the zombies would appear so they could have their smartphone cameras ready, just like the press photographers. The passengers who the story boasts are "screaming in terror" are high-fiving the zombies in the photo.

I thought Halloween was next Thursday.

They still don't know what it is and probably don't care. Instead they have taken the lose Halloween theme and given it a unique Japanese twist. Any excuse to let off steam in this highly stressed society.

Halloween in Japan is a 3 month extravaganza!

Gotta love Japan's passion for all things foreign especially American!

LOOOL!!!!

GO HALLOWEEN!

I hope they enjoyed it though it’s not my cup of tea.

Would I catch this train? No way Pedro.

-2 ( +4 / -6 )

Funny that this is acceptable but walking around Shibuya is frowned on.

Oh yeah money talks

Only in Japan :-)))

90% of the thrill is taken out when you know it's going to happen.

tell me about it.

Do they do this in the US? Europe? NO! Culture be danged. No one should do this anywhere. Why, the very idea of a little fun and celebrating a holiday in their own way is wrong in every way. Imagine if they had fun in the US. It would be wrong. Fun is only fun if other cultures approve of it. Am I right?

Overpriced.

Many aboard the zombie-infested train said the experience alone was worth the ticket price of up to 50,000 yen.

USJ has a nightly zombie show during this time that is exceptional. The performers (zombies) do a remarkable job and know expertly when to frighten those wanting to be frightened and when to pull back a bit when someone seems really scared. The tickets are cheaper.

Don't fear the Cheaper.
