Japan has had a plethora of "space cadets" running the government for too long!

Japan has a lot of catching up to do. China is becoming a huge threat and they don’t much like the Japanese.

Very few countries develop their own stand along electronic warfare capability. Most western allies build on what the US does. To have an effective EW program a nation has to be able to precisely measure the wave forms and operating characteristics of all the threat emitters out there in every adversary military, and then come up with ways to jam or spoof those emitters. Every time an adversary makes a change (hopefully you noticed they made a change through constant surveillance of adversary forces) or introduce a new emitter your technical people have to go back to the lab and come up with a revise or new countermeasure to deal with the change. The equipment and manpower required to accomplish this are not trivial. Very few nations do full spectrum EW. Ships and aircraft have to stalk adversary forces and record their emissions and how they used their systems to understand all the operating modes. Adversaries take great pains to shut off emitters when they think they are being surveilled. The ships and aircraft that do this are not cheap to build or operate. US, Russia and China are really the only two doing it all in house. Most non-NATO (or US allies in the Pacific) nations don't even encrypt their radios much less use EW. Western allies build on what the US does, sharing the results of their surveillance with other western allies and the US. The allies basically share the hard work of chasing around adversary force to record their emissions since one nation can't really do it all. It will be interesting to see how much actual independent EW Japan does. My suspicion is they will coordinate heavily with the US. The jammers on JMSDF ships look pretty much like the same ones the US Navy uses. Maybe that will change?

Why is this taking so long?

They have a right. One in six humans. Don’t go to wars around the world. Great food.

Hmm, subversion in action.

The right to be in the territorial waters of sovereign nations including Japan, Philippines and Indonesia. Nope. The right to violate the cyber security of corporations and nations for IP theft. Nope. The right to violate the human rights of the “one in six.” Nope.

Great food, sure. Great people, often. Great regime. No.

Yeah. That's great. How about acquiring and inoculating the population with the SARSCoV-2 vaccine. Then you can go spend all your resources on imaginary war and fabulist means of fratricide.

The threat is real and glad Japan is taking it seriously.

China is throwing its weight around in far more belligerent ways recently in a marked change of posture. Testing the waters (literally) in the Philippines right now.

It’s no coincidence that Britain, Germany and France are all sending ships to the Asia Pacific.

as well as grasp locations of enemy troops

Didn’t know japan had any enemies since 1945...

The Japan Govt (and JT) would also do well to monitor the subversion operations of Russia and China, which has been their playbook since 1945. Both are active in subversion through social media in foreign countries. I sense it’s the case in some JT comments.

Silence is the best weapon. A lot of posters are here posting what China has and what Japan doesn't have. I will say this "Loose lips sink ships" Japan has more than you think they have!

They have a right. One in six humans.

That doesnt give them any rights above others.

Don’t go to wars around the world.

No they keep their wars in their own region and close by.

Great food.

Yes the food is awesome but that give no rights other than participation in cooking contests.

Well China has no enemies but it's buildup has been phenomenal so Japan is just following China's lead.
