You're correct. But most of the locals and their loyal fans over here don't want to admit that Japan is actually a child-state. Tantrums when it doesn't get its way, and running to mommy when the bogeyman appears.

The USMC has just grounded all Ospreys from Operation for a 24 hour operation reset. This is global in scale. Seems there may have been a mechanical cause.

I see the same thing at the local level: anti-police protests and demonstrations and demands for police to be removed. Until their homes are robbed and loved-ones are threatened/kidnapped/killed. Then all of sudden the police presence are "needed". The same with anti-gun advocates. When they are mugged, the next thing they do is buy a gun for protection against future threats.

How come these same anti-war/anti-U.S. military/peace-advocates aren't protesting AGAINST North Korea's threats of military actions and nuclear destruction? How come they aren't protesting against China's military presence in the South China Seas region?

If these same anti-war and peace advocates are serious about world peace and a nuclear-free world, they would be consistent and protest against BOTH sides, especially against North Korea and China who are destabilizing the region.

This Osprey incident is adding insult to injury of the sovereignty of Japan.

Unless the USMC implemented a shutdown of all Ospreys in operation worldwide, suggesting a confirmed mechanical accident cause, Japan should not have even requested what it did, since the outcome here was extremely obvious.

please share that "understandable explanation" the US army has given to the Defense Ministry. They probably didnt even get anything, just are trying to save face because the Japan Defense is too weak, to low to demand or even protest to the US.

An Osprey can fly with one engine as the rotors are cross-linked inside the wing, granted reduced operability as one engine is not powerful enough for hover operation.

Flight, controlled descent/glide are still possible. Ergo it won't just drop like a rock.

4 smaller rotors won't generate the same lift as 2 big ones(CH-46, Ch-47).

Speed over safety...

Having 2 huge tilt-rotors is a bad idea. Better to have 4 smaller tilt-rotors. If an RPG takes out one rotor, the other 3 could keep it from a hard landing. With only 2, you're toast.

Let's see now. TOKYO will allow Osprey flights over OKINAWA.
