Now they ban? A bit late, don't you think?

Isn't it TOO late!!?

Seems like a loophole if any countries all the export of chemicals or processing equipment to mass produce chemical weapons. Can't see anyone in any western/free country thinking this ever was a good idea. Good to close it and not just for Japan, but for all countries.

Asked if Japan approves of the possible use of nuclear weapons by the United States against Russia, Matsuno refused to comment on the grounds that it was a hypothetical question.

Well handled. Hopefully, nobody wants any large scale nuclear weapons to ever be used anywhere, especially never as a first strike. I don't think anyone "approves", but it is required to appear willing as a deterrent.

News people asking these questions are trying to undermine defenses for their country. They can ask, but don't expect an answer.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

You just can't keep saying this all the time. The hypocrisy is staggering.

Sure they can, but making demands won't get them anywhere ... er ... until they have some nukes to threaten as back up for their wishes. /s

Are people really so naive as to think wishing for peace can make it happen when they don't control anything? There is evil in this world. Real evil. There are people who are happy to kill anyone to get what they want. We see their actions in the world news daily, unfortunately.

Russia isn't likely to listen to Matsuno-san, so this was just for the news people in the room. Nobody else will listen, not seriously.

Ban the export of chemical weapons good to Russia?

Uh, yeah, that always sounds like a pretty good idea.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Perhaps a total Trade ban would be more effective ?

The UK has no stockpiles of chemical weapons.

In 1957 the UK abandoned its chemical weapons program and has since eradicated its stockpiles. The UK ratified the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) in 1996 and has provided financial assistance to countries such as Russia, in 2001, to destroy their chemical weapons stockpiles.

Russia doesn’t have chemical weapons or want them

Sssshhhh. Don't tell the dead Russian ex-pats, the dead British lady who sprayed the Novocak on herself or the guy on the plane with the toxic underpants.

This is so laughably, provably incorrect - it again beggars belief that anyone would say/write it in seriousness.

So, eh....we'll take that as a yes then??

which makes this....

As the world’s only country to have suffered nuclear attacks, we strongly demand that the threat or use of nuclear weapons by Russia should never happen,”

All the more hypocritical.

As a representative of the world’s only country to have suffered nuclear attacks, Matsuno is quite a hypocrite...

Some chemical weapons are not that far from insecticides or rodenticides and the chemicals for making these are widely available. Likewise from a foreign intelligence standpoint it can be difficult to discern if factory is producing legitimate commercial insecticides and rodenticides, or chemical weapons. The equipment and raw ingredients are not very different.

actually USA and UK still hold stockpiles of chemical weapons

The US eliminated all of its stockpiles of chemical weapons under international supervision. I had a room mate involved in the program to dispose of them safely. At least for the US they are all gone now.

As a practical matter they are not very useful in combat. To be effective the weather has to be very favorable, there is a risk to one's own forces from your own weapons, and their effects are easily protected against with modern NBC suits and wash down stations that pretty much every modern military possess and trains with.

They have nuclear weapons which they have right to use if Russia is attacked.

nobody has attacked Russia since WW2, Russia are the ones doing the attacking

one fact.

Russia have destroyed own arsenal of chemical weapons a ling time ago under supervision of experts from UN/USA did not do that until now-why remaining "mystery"/.

question-means Japan producing products for chemical weapons?

this "peace loving" nation?

just wanted be sure as according this article it seems so?

some kind of napalm or stuff they have to use in Nanking some decades ago?

sure they have very good experience with it from past...

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

The point Eastman conviently overlooks is that while Russia has destroyed it's declared chemical stockpiles, it has and has used an undeclared stockpile of chemical weapons designed and developed speicifically to be undetectable by conventional chemical sniffers in use at the time of develpment.

These are facts that are not in doubt so LOL all you want. It changes nothing.

wonder where else Japan is exporting chemical weapons goods....

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Like Russia will suffer for that, defense industry is not that significant as export product in Japan.

As the world’s only country to have suffered nuclear attacks, we strongly demand that the threat or use of nuclear weapons by Russia should never happen,” Chief Cabinet Secretary Hirokazu Matsuno told a regular news conference.

You just can't keep saying this all the time. The hypocrisy is staggering.

Russia doesn’t have chemical weapons or want them. They have nuclear weapons which they have right to use if Russia is attacked. People need to take a step back and take a deep breath, while counting to ten.
