O if Abe ban Suga's party didn't pay for travel, meals and hotels with taxpayer money, this is a very responsible response!

A nitpick it is though, the cancelation happened in 1989 as well when Emperor Hirohito was gravely ill (He passed away almost a week later, ending the era Showa).
Other than the annual New Year meet, the public gatherings at royal palace has been called off several times; the latest was on Feb 23 of this year (Emperor's Birthday) due to the pandemic.
Wish for it coming back to the normal.

And all the politicians are still pushing the Olympics down the public's throat....ridiculous.

No brainer here, but now will the government "cancel" all the people, literally millions, who go and visit Meiji Shrine and all the other temples and shrines over New Year's.
Talk about "super-spreader" events!" THOSE are petri dishes just waiting to explode!
