I think it would be much earlier than anybody's expectations !

Of course they can't say! They need time to order people to send emails that look at nuclear power in a positive manner and not being caught up in a scandal. That takes a lot of bribe money for CEOs, who then have to order their sheeple to 'do what's right', and then said sheeple have to send the emails, and finally there has to be a survey of 100 or so carefully selected people to represent the nation's opinion.
"The government has also launched a campaign urging office workers to shed their suits and ties for lighter clothes such as polo shirts to endure the country’s summer heat."
Another example of lip-service at its worst -- every business person I know still dons a suit to work because they are expected to, especially people who work in sales promotion.

Just drag it out a bit longer and hope the people get bored and stop caring, and then business as usual

I do not care what country you come from, this would take time no matter what, unless you want a shoddy job done.

The shoddy job is what led to the current crisis.

I have greats legs, use them get out! It's not going to be too long before they are pussed up and full of cancer.
You are a positive person, hard to maintain when a power company causes your death
herefornow
ihavegreatlegs -- fair point. But can you tell me one thing about this disaster that has not been done in a shoddy manner? In any case, looks like the drag on the economy caused by the power shortages could last well into the fall.

It sounds as if all the fuel rods are ready to go at the other places, so they might as well be using them or breaking them down. Lets see what happens.

Should never be restarted.

I think a big problem they face is spent fuel rods. These plants have spent fuel rods all over the place, and their enclosures would most likely fail a stress test.

Leaving these reactors off line would force Japan to invest much more quickly in cleaner energy sources, so while the pain would be great in the short term, the long term benefits would be even greater!
