Pattern matching is not AI, it is conventional data analysis.
This is highly likely to be the kids with the 1,193 worst records for attendance or lateness, minus any easily spotted outliers, such as a child who didn't come for three months due to hospitalization.

Bullying should be addressed more seriously and with way more severity in Japan. If AI can help with this, by all means.
However human emphaty, specially of the teachers, should still be nr 1 in identifying and dealing properly with this issue.

Just logged in to agree with @kohakuebisu. This is conventional data analysis.
if they fed a AI social media account data from 2020 and told it to predict relevant outcomes in 2022… then asked it to compare actual vs predicted outcomes for 2022 and repeat continuously over various time frames to improve predictive models… That would be an Interesting use of AI. .

Pattern matching isn't AI, but the systems they use to do it are.
For large data sets, AI systems are more efficient at data collection, cleaning and analysis etc. than humans.
It's very common in business now.

How about instigating the programme of proper teaching, inclusion of non Japanese students, and flexibility regarding attendance due to individual students situation?
Basically human kindness.
Oops, does not compute?

Or, you could ask the kids personally..."why dont you want to come to school anymore "
Seems easier.
One size doesnt fit all in school curriculum.

How about they use AI to find the bullies creating school refusal in the first place?!

"AI" is what the word "digital" used to be in the 90s, a trendy word to make common, already existing things look innovative and cool.
