Great news, perhaps it may lead to realising that 130db sirens are not needed on a fire truck moving at 25mph on a deserted road at 4am.

That would be welcome news.

They shouldnt have chosen to live near an airbase then. Ridiculous case

You sound ridiculous.

Having seen cases like this in my own country there is merit to his comment. I still laugh when I think about a petition taker many years ago who knocked on my door when I lived in a place beneath the departure route of a major airport. The person wanted me to sign a noise complaint. I told the person I knew there was an airport when I moved here and the airport was the reason I could afford to live so close to a beach. The person with the petition was indignant and stomped off. I have seen countless times people move into recently build homes or condos near an airport or military base and almost immediately start agitating to close the airport. I have about zero respect for that. Sorry now flame away and vote me down.

I dont live in miyazaki but I thought this was a thing in Japan too. Emergency service cars blasting their sirens in the middle of the night all the time (but perhaps where I am there is traffic, doubt it though).

While you are at it, arrest those idiots on the motorbikes/scooters that constantly rev their engines with loud mufflers all night. Impound the bikes and make them pay a exorbitant fine to get them back.

4000 yen a month to live with constant noise from the base seems like a bad deal, the ruling should take in account how much the rent would change for the same property but located at a distance that prevented the noise.

how about the government just fund the soundproofing of all houses within the vicinity of bases if they don't want to pay up. I thankfully dont live near the airport but I would always feel noised out whenever my public transport would pass near the airport, I can only sympathize with residents near these areas.

Yes, it’s generally a very noisy country. Maybe it’s part of the culture, that only the very loudest are heard , recognized, believed, elected, things bought from and so on. That’s in sum scientifically proven not healthy nowadays and therefore also many of the elderly generations turn sometimes aggressive, for example. But the unhealthy noise will still stay for some years ahead as that newer knowledge still isn’t as widespread as the tradition.

The payments are pretty small, $40 to $200 a month give or take. Chump change really. Not even rounding error compared to the budget for that base.

This reminds me of the El toro air base in Irvine Calif. were people creeped in on the base building homes closer and closer to it's borders then they started complaining about the F-18 and the AV-8 engines noise, you either put up or move out. hope you get the message.

Exactly. That base used to be out in the middle of nowhere surrounded by farmland and many miles from any towns. Same thing at NAS Miramar, NAS Los Alamitos and March AFB. Now they are all surrounded by expensive developments and in the case of El Toro, the base is closed. The same dynamic is present at John Wayne Airport, Hollywood Burbank and Santa Monica airports. Santa Monica will close soon due to neighborhood pressure. Douglas built the airplanes that helped win WWII at Santa Monica. Now the hangers will be boutiques and restaurants and no one will remember its history. The original Lockheed Skunk Works was torn down over a decade ago and replaced by shopping.
