This means that the price of chicken will rise locally. Guess we'll be seeing more chicken from China, Thailand and elsewhere from overseas. Bird flu ... bad stuff ...

Foul business that!

This is what happens when greed and gluttony combine and humans think animals are incapable of suffering and pain. Appalling cruelty.
wtfjapan
so does this mean they're going to ban the sale of domestic chicken!? after all they just stopped importing Brazilain chicken for the problems they're having. Oops sorry forgot there are double standards when it comes to J agriculture.
Goodlucktoyou
A chickens life is like a humans. We are both mammals.
lucabrasi
Chickens are mammals??
Fapster
good get rid of them quickly. chickens are notorious for spreading disease, all of the infected chickens should be eradicated ASAP. with some type of spraying device or perhaps gas.
Strangerland
They can't control the standards in another country the same as they can in Japan, where they literally set the standards. If they were able to go in, set regulations, do evaluations etc. in another country, then there wouldn't be a need to ban all imports.
Chickens aren't mammals. And we're higher on the food chain, so I'll keep eating them thanks.
I'm for humane methods of execution however.

Japanese eat also raw chicken meat, makes it easy to speed the virus to humans.
wtfjapan
They can't control the standards in another country the same as they can in Japan, and yet how many outbreaks of birdflue, pig flue , madcow disease have there been in the last 10~15yrs? Ive lost count. Its clear Japans livestock hygene / management are not up to standards, yet that hasnt stopped the sale of those meats when an outbreak occurs. How many years was American beef banned again? Then Japan has the gall to question when J agriculture goods are blocked from sale in other countries. Once again double standards when it come to J agriculture.
Strangerland
In Japan? You tell me.
No, that's not clear at all can you support that premise with some actual evidence?

Maybe stop eating chicken? Eggs and dairy too.
http://nutritionfacts.org/topics/cholesterol/. Lots of data and videos about the peer reviewed science not marketing. Quite an eye opener.
Time to cut out artery clogging cholesterol and move to a plant based diet. Japan doesn't get the obesity but it is getting record diabetes levels, all because of increasingly poorer meat diet.

@Strangerland Of course it's clear Try thinking logically! Factory farming in Japan is indoors not outside. If the chickens in Japan were properly shielded from outside contamination then there wouldn't be any viral infection would there.....?
Strangerland
Logical thinking says that such a determination needs to be made based on facts, not feeling. So I'd suggest you take your own advice.
Maybe if the factories were in a bubble, with decontamination occurring whenever anyone entered the factory.
But I'm assuming (though to be fair, I haven't actually checked), that chicken factories are not hermetically sealed, so there is nothing to prevent viruses from getting in.
Now if you want to provide me with some actual facts that show that farming isn't up to standard here, then I'm open to it. But if you are going to condemn purely on feeling and faulty logic alone, you're not going to find me coming on board.
kurisupisu
To be fair to you,it seems that you have commented on this subject without educating yourself first i.e. you haven't bothered to look at any facts about
'Avian flu, transmission vectors, intensive farming etc'
Then you wouldn't have to assume anything.....
