All should be raising a red flag and a raising your eyeballs. This is restricting and revoking freedom. Unconstitutional. Howerver. we the people can fight back by simply ignoring to enter and eat or drink and use there service and let it die out. We DO NOT need a NANNY police state. Regardless of those who are vaccinated or not does not make any diffrences. A vaccinated person can still carry the cute wuhan virus regardless of the unvaxxed....

In return, I don’t trust them either, although I am of course vaccinated. Or can they prove too that their venues are not infectious and full of virus spreaders? Do they have a paper or digital certificate to show?

In addition to some, almost-daily ‘*hypocrisy’****, … not very much.
@TARA TAN KITAOKA 7:04pm: “Capitalism *more important than life. What can I say???*” -How’s that oft-boasted across various SNS “thriving import business”, despite restrictions for **everyone else’s* small business in the last 20 months?

Even children can catch COVID - they're generally asymptomatic but may be infectious. Even after getting a jab, one may still harbor COVID and be infectious. I've got my two jabs but still wear a mask for that reason.

I do not think the vaccine/test certificate as much to do with individual people. The purpose is protect society by protecting medical system and also livehood. Vaccinated people are less likely to end up being a pressure on the medical system, by protecting medical system they reduce the need to implement containment measure, thus more live-hood are protected.
We already know the pattern : virus start spreading - medical system start having trouble - bars and restaurants take the fall. So what people not wanting to be vaccinated nor to accept restriction are in substance telling is that they do not care about medical system, people working for it and using it, neither business which will have to close. The government is pretty clear : they are planing to establish their pass instead of other restrictions and hoping it will be sufficient.
It is not about you people, it is about society.

I am not anti-vax but I'm against of this as I'm from post-communist country. Nah, no one will bother me with proof when I want have peace and relaxed time. Otherwise I won't go there. I don't care if someone is vaccinated or not. Not my bussiness. That was the reason why to get vaccinated so you wouldn't need to care who got corona around you.
Maybe they should put chip into vaccine after all. :D :D

Let's see the case of tabacco smokers being denied entry indoor. On the one hand, they still hold rights to smoking as there is so far no bans of tabacco sale/access unlike some risker stimulants. They can also claim that their health is none of business of any other. On the other hands, just like infectious diseases, smoking does affect the health of your loved ones, innocent neighbors as well as belonging community. Smoking raises economic costs alongside heavier financial burden on medical services.
Though I don't think it's a good analogy, the status and social perceptions of unvaccinated people will look like those of tabacco smokers. I can still tolerate some vax deniers, but curbing measures of their freedom will soon come inevitably.

Hito Bito,
Well said.

The more people in a country, and in the bigger picture, the world are vaccinated the better. And if those who won't willfully get vaccinated for whatever (non-medical) reason are forced to get vaccinated in order to get into places they want to, good!

The author, an emergency-medicine physician, makes some pretty good points about why vaccinated people are not ‘just as likely’ to spread the coronavirus as unvaccinated People:
https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2021/09/the-vaccinated-arent-just-as-likely-to-spread-covid/620161/
Besides, incentivising those who take the vaccine with lesser restrictions, results in encouraging others to take it too, resulting in achieving herd immunity quicker.

Even if it isn't legal, I'm all for it and would pay the fine for those establishments that are found to be wayward of the law. I'm tired of selfish people who don't trust science. Get over it for crying out loud.

What a load of rubbish!
Vaccinated or unvaccinated we can still carry and spread the virus!
This is nonsense!!
At least one person, who understands the situation.

@japantrojan spot on!

Everybody thinks that these measures will protect them from people who are unvaccinated, but this demonstrates the paucity of rational thinking in society. Too many arts graduates and not enough scientists!
Vaccinations only protect the person vaccinated (which is why I am vaccinated). They do not prevent you from becoming infected, or from passing the infection on to others. They merely mean that you will suffer less from the infection, either being completely asymptomatic or having only very mild symptoms. So if you think about it, the vaccinated are more likely to spread the virus because, being asymptomatic, they are less likely to realise they are infected and therefore more likely to go out and socialise.
Therefore, what these proof-of-vaccination restrictions actually do is protect the unvaccinated from the vaccinated but asymptomatically-infected, by keeping them apart. Which is fine (if you believe that the unvaccinated must be protected against their will), except that the unvaccinated will just go elsewhere and mingle with other unvaccinated people, and therefore the rate of spread will remain just as high.
In summary, these restrictions are utterly pointless.

Is 2021 going to be the year I need a healthpass to eat at McDonalds?

We're heading for a class divided global society, those without medical conditions who refuse vaccination are in the 2nd class bracket. I'm fine with that.
Making a significant segment of your population second-class citizens historically doesnt end well.

Sounds like a great way to lose potentially 30% of your customers?
Right now, 30% of the entire country of Japan remains "unvaxxed" (and I'm sure they're all evil people, not because of bureaucratic problems or a lack of appropriate speed of rollout on the part of local governments, right? Because the haters have to have someone to hate, right?)
I'm vaxxed, but I will not go to any place that requires "proof" of my vaccination. I'm certainly not "seeking attention"; lol, on the contrary, I'm AVOIDING the 3C places like bars and restaurants! You just don't get my money, for what that's worth.
Right now, worldwide, there is NO real country (not some territory, etc.) that has vax rates over 90%. Nowhere. As for worldwide vaccinations? They peaked from a high of 40 million doses per day in summer...DOWN to just 28 million per day. Why?? When only 2.3% of people in Low Income Countries continue to wait...and wait...
Oh, by the way, remember that once you're inside that "vax-only" restaurant, you take off your mask...and can help spread COVID. That's right. Vaccinations are no guarantee, not even close, that YOU aren't the "evil super-spreader" unless you're testing yourselves regularly, which of course you simply do not do, right?
That's what the Science says. "Less likely to catch and/or spread" does not equate "will not catch and/or spread..." Just like with a flu shot (which no one in their right mind "require" for visiting bars or restaurants).
And If I go on avoiding the Three Cs (like bars and restuarants), while "Already-Vaxxed Angels" actually INCREASE their visits to said places to sit for hours, maskless, in close quarters (and COVID continues to spread)? Who exactly is at fault, again??

You will have to send your cert through beforehand...by fax.

Yea..Japan still expects you to carry a paper drivers license in your wallet. How totally backwards.

QR code better than barcode and a JPAI invention.
koiwaicoffee
It’s a big misconception to equal vaccine=no virus. You can have the vaccine stamp and still carry and spread the virus around. Not sure what the proof of vaccination accomplish.
tooheysnew
sorry champ, it ain’t against the law.
It’s private property, so the owner has the right to refuse anyone he pleases
ShinkansenCaboose
@Rowiko. I carry everything paper and digital because if you travel around Japan like we do paper is so important. Younger front desk clerks read the digital but required to copy and fax the real papers to the front office and they fax it to the head Tencho which goes to the Bucho by fax up the ladder. Final fax goes to the main HonMise head office and copies sent to Kono and Aso for verification and lots of meetings but will be accepted
Easy as a making an onigiri

It might help then to have a DIGITAL Covid certificate to actually make this practical.
Or how about a barcode?

To the complainers, if you comply all this will end soon.
Good advice - unthinking compliance and conformity is always easier.

What if you refuse to cooperate, can they refuse entry? As far as I know it's against the law to refuse entry without a legal reason
Yes. a private establishment can refuse you entry, and probably provide you a whole list of legitimate reasons for doing so (dress code violations, wrong color socks, tonight is a private function, you pose a public health risk etc, etc, and in Japan they can simply say 'sorry, no foreigners allowed.'
We're heading for a class divided global society, those without medical conditions who refuse vaccination are in the 2nd class bracket. I'm fine with that.

Yes they can , private establishments can refuse entry to people who don't follow rules.
Asking for proof of vaccination is a great idea and should be encouraged.
