Empress Masako will also attend if her condition allows, reports said.

My goodness. What excuse are they going to come up with now to prevent her from escaping Japan? Poor woman.

World leaders are going to be quite busy. According to reports, Queen Elizabeth II's funeral will likely be on September 19, after the 10 day mourning period. About a week later is Abe's.

The emperor does not make the laws.

Emperor Naruhito attended Oxford University from 1983-86. Emperor Akihito also attended the coronation of Queen Elizabeth.

Good. And the coronation next year too, I hope.

Unless you're just trolling, elaborate a bit more who wants to escape Japan and why?

Of course, Biden himself will attend this time. I’m curious who’s going to represent China at Queen’s funeral.

I am more than surprised to learn that Japan's Emperor Naruhito will be going to travel across the globe to attend the funereal of Britain's Queen Elizabeth. When I was a child, I well remember that Emperor Hirohito was treated as a god. The Japanese Emperor never left his country. And today, Emperor Naruhito has even attended Oxford University for three years and, is now going to attend the funereal of a queen. How times have changed!

You seem to have missed in-between. Akihito who visited with his Empress to several countries

Actually it is not always so.

The protocols for a visiting monarch are very complicated so more often than not on such things with short notice the Crown prince in sent.

Example: Prince Phillip was sent as representative when Emperor Hirohito died, this avoids certain protocols having to be done.

Good, he is welcome.

Just watched the Accession Council and the Garter of Arms make the official proclamation of Charles 111 as king. Ceremony, tradition and pageantry, Historic tradition and modern change combined, first time the ceremony has been televised.

Obviously ultimately down to the Japanese government but it would be a good thing if they were to come.

He would be welcomed, definitely.

Kishida-san, maybe not so much.

Roman numerals are used to describe the king not Arabic

Tell that to Apple, my tablet doesn’t do Roman numerals!

The emperor has close links to Britain and the royals, having studied at Oxford University.

While at Oxford, Naruhito also was able to go sightseeing across Europe and meet much of its royalty, including the British royal family. The relatively relaxed manners of the United Kingdom's royals amazed him: "Queen Elizabeth II, he noted with surprise, poured her own tea and served the sandwiches."

The Japanese Emperor never left his country.

I was in London in 1971 when Hirohito and the Empress visited.

Tell that to Apple, my tablet doesn’t do Roman numerals!

Yes it does, it’s just ordinary capitals

I, II, III, IV, V, VI, VII, VIII, IX, X

A lot of unnecessary disrespect on this thread. Very sad that some people have time to compose such posts. Why comment at all?

A sad day ...an era will end with her demise ...Great Britain will not be the same ...

He will be very welcome indeed. And he won't need to wear that silly mask, either!

Such a honour would would highlight and strengthen the important of the long-lasting relationship between the UK and Japan royal families.

A smart act of statesmanship.

A surprise foot note...

what a waste of time at the taxpayers cost

Given the British experience at the hands of the Japanese Imperial forces during WWII, I think it would be better, that this Generation of "Emperor" simply provides a non-presence token of sadness.

Future Generations will of course be welcomed - based upon their actions in the future - but for now, "Sorry", there are some still alive within the UK, who may find his presence a bit "distasteful" at present, likewise for some others - Germany and Italy, included.

Oddly, I would welcome the presence of Russia's Putin - Russia is not a Natural Enemy of the West, it has strayed though, and perhaps through a common kinship, an opportunity may exist to put matters straight again and an end to mistakes made by all sides.

That said, I would like to see, the UK, offer an opportunity for State leaders, Past & Present, to come to the UK, without Public Protest, in order to pay their respects to the late Queen. German & Italian Officials welcome, along with Russian, and other Countries without having to endure Public Protests (which during this time should be made "illegal" - out of disrespect for the Monarchy).

Now, is an opportunity, for rebuilding "Friendships" among Nations rather than seeking "War".
