Let's hope PM Suga remembers to stand for the emperor this time; a voice to the side told him and Hashimoto to get up at the opening ceremony!

He should attend both the opening and closing ceremonies (with the Empress)

Hopefully Suga doesn't fall asleep again

Excellent news. Another wonderful sporting event set to unfold before our eyes. So many heroes trying their best. Doubt it will have the coverage of the Olympics, but surely it will be an inspiration to millions.

It does that, all around the world.

Of course that won't stop the usual whiners and conspiracy theorists claiming that it's a weapon of mass destruction directly responsible for the deaths of thousands.

Give him a break. The Emperor here has absolutely no authority and the government he answers to makes decisions for him. He reads what they prepare for him, he can't even choose which foreign visitor to receive. Remember what was about the conception problem and how it became a government issue? He's kind of like Brezhnev (although at the end) - he stands where he stands according to protocol. Instead of nagging him, you should be questioning the government here and the paralympics here, in the current situation.

He does what his is told to do as all Citizens should. Think that’s the message.

Emperor Naruhito will attend next week's opening ceremony of the Tokyo Paralympics, the Imperial Household Agency said Thursday.

Wow! I feel much better to know that the Emperor Naruhito will be at the games.

In an underdeveloped country like Japan, we all need to have something to look forward to.

This is the best Japan can do I guess.

COVID will just have to wait.
