I find very difficult to reconcile the dual position of the Japanese Government about the situation in Myanmar, somehow it feels like it is betting on both sides.

The hard stance on allowing only very limited numbers of refugees is easier to understand, still completely unjustified but this is just normal business for Japan.

Critics should mind their own business. They always need to find complains in good deeds. You cannot enforce us to do anything. If we want to help, we will. If we don’t, then we don’t. If we wish to extend aid to someone, it’s our own choice and free will. But if you demand it from us, you can forget about it.

Japan will offer Myanmar residents who were given special permission to stay following last year's military coup in their homeland yearlong extensions instead of the current six-month renewals, the justice minister said.

Meanwhile the Japanese government will still subsidize Japan Inc. investments with the junta.
