Shouldn't be hard... most have moved on more than a year ago after giving up on this nation, but as their own nations still welcomed Japanese.

The students arriving are those who are already enrolled in programs and have been taking them online until now. Students wanting to enroll from 2023 won't be able to enter the country until their programs start in 2023.

It seems patently on purpose to postpone as much as possible entry of gaijin, for no reason.

So risky, with possibilities of new ban entry, and still no entry planned for all sorts of foreigners.

It's a pity they couldn't get their act together to get them here for the start of the semester at the beginning of April. Where there's a will there's a way they say.

Universities need that foreign students income $$, glad to see so may foreign students coming to Japan to study since the number of Japanese student is on the decline.

True, school officials can never deny it although some offering courses/programmes seem to me unfit or underdeveloped. North America and Europe are leaders in "export" of higher education services for international students, earning a lot.

End of may for students, so what June before we can come and go freely. Almost a year before the rest of the world. North Korea will open before us. this makes me pull my hair out, if u c a gaijin with clumps of hair missing it's me!

The timing is not ideal, but most classes are being offered hybrid anyway so the students will just start the term studying online and then start attending in person once they get here.

Its way better than just continuing to keep them out.

This is an entirely self-imposed problem that they are now performing mental gymnastics to fix within their self-imposed restrictions.

It could be solved overnight by any competent authority.

The new per-day limit of 7,000 entrants, compared to the pre-March limit of 3,500, means 3,500 students and business travelers can enter every day. A best (worst?) case 150,000 students, divided by the roughly 80 days until end of May, makes 1875 students per day.

Yesterday's official briefing noted that the government is planning a fast-track entry process exclusively for 1,000 student visa holders per day. By a quick estimate, it would still take 150 days to cover all 150,000 under this scheme. But it would be conducted alongside the regular entry of daily 7,000 entry cap. Hopefully anyone willing to come can reach school on time.

Well considering how J-gov has upended their lives and studies by shutting them out for over 2 years, I'd say a good chunk. Many have switched their majors and/or transferred to countries who happily welcomed them with open arms. It's Japan's loss; not the students' that J-gov was been so pigheaded and illogical with the border controls.

Now, the goal is for students who wish to still come here for studies is May? Don't classes start in April? Again, well done on your incompetency, J-gov. These students will have missed a month or more of their schooling by the time they get a seat on a plane, land, go through the absurd quarantine procedures, and get settled in.

Students who were/are thinking about studying in japan - go elsewhere. There are far better prospects in other countries who will probably provide a better experience not tainted with discrimination and bogged down with nonsensical rules.
