Kobayashi Pharmaceutical is a household name in Japan, offering a wide range of health-related products, and the scandal has been top news in the country.

If some people got dizzy and panicked after taking a substance we should ban a whole class of plant derived substances.

Japanese health supplement maker Kobayashi Pharmaceutical said Friday it was probing 76 more deaths possibly linked to its tablets containing red yeast rice, meant to lower cholesterol.

Let's investigate further to identify the exact cause and scope of the health damage.

Wouldn't you think that 76 deaths would warrant a sense of urgency? But then, like other big pharmaceuticals, Kobayashi is more concerned with making money than saving lives.

This is what happens when No Hero's and No Whistle Blowers are rewarded or even allowed.

Everyone sits waits for a group action! it's always about the group thing doing things together ! it's fine but not when things are going wrong, that's when Hero's step in and shine.

Don't expect that anytime soon.

Someone paid Big $$ to allow these tablets to be sold over the counter.

Someone paid Big $ to allow these tablets to be sold over the counter.

I doubt that. Aren't these dietary supplements? Dietary supplements aren't regulated the same as normal "medicine".

'"But until today, it had not reported the specific number of cases under investigation, and it is extremely regrettable," Hayashi told reporters.'

Well, then you know what you do? Exercise your authoritative powers and arrest all of those involved immediately. You then not just politely request they oblige by the law, but you order it.

@woodylee. When heroes shine and whistle blow, they fall off the helicopter or die in mysterious ways. You should check out the whistle blowers at Boing.

Just like Toyota, Dentsu, or other major corporations in Japan, they are too big to be touched even if there were 1000 deaths over their products. They have into their pockets too many politicians, persecutoers, judges, etc to even worry about any major repercussions.

No supplements, what ever they are for Work, it was established years ago that they are just a delusion to fool the general public, to fill big pharma's pockets, and my dog, it works............ps. Proper medical supplements and medication prescribed by doctors and the like, do work, so if you have been given these by your doctor, take them.

meant to lower cholesterol.

Supplement probably got tainted.

Still, we should consult a doctor about health matters.

Top government spokesman Yoshimasa Hayashi said Friday that … it is extremely regrettable,"

They’re like a stuck record with these crocodile tear insincere regrets they trot out each and every time the country suffers a loss of face and reputation for probity as a result of somebody, somewhere, somehow, stuffing up.

Cover-up and justification inbound!

So it's not pharma but the company is called Kobayashi Pharma...hmmmm... Japan is nearly as bad as the US for its regulation of these cowboys!

This is also one of man-made disaster that LDP regime caused.

10 years before, risk of "Nutritional functional supplements" had already cautioned from opposition lawmakers at the Diet. But the then Abe government ignored it, they prioritized to benefit corporations than safety of citizen.

Japan's weakened major media avoid even mentioning about responsibilities of LDP politics.
