Headline: Japan foreign arrivals in Sept up 11.7-fold from last year to 206,500

Alternative headline: Inbound and outbound travelers down by more than 80% from pre-pandemic

As indicated in the article ...

The estimated number of foreign visitors to Japan in September was down 90.9 percent from September in the pre-pandemic year of 2019.

The number of Japanese who went overseas in September was an 81.8 percent drop from the same month in 2019.

I can tell you that domestic tourism has been steadily rising for nearly 6 months now. Include the increase in foreign tourism and things are starting to get back to the new normal.

Meanwhile, the number of Japanese who went overseas in September totaled 319,200. The figure was 6.1 times higher than a year earlier but an 81.8 percent drop from the same month in 2019.

Doh, with the yen rate hovering at around 150 to the US dollar fewer "average" Japanese are going to be able to afford to travel abroad. Increases in domestic costs will also put a damper on domestic travel, even with the "go to" whatever it is this time, campaign.

This is going to overwhelm the babas working in souvenir shops on Higashiyama street. Too much too soon. Must be more cautious and urge "caution". Seems hasty and reckless.

You’ll have to wait for me to work three months in Jordan, before I can take any time off.

See you in March for two weeks

Go Domestic Tourism, restore yourself to its former glory.
