Thank you Taiwan, 2 million!
Fukui Prefecture: 2 boxes, 50 masks each
Abe: 2 masks

Maybe they can also send some advice to the J-Gov on how to properly deal with the virus, as well.
Doug Maduro
Great news. Now Japanese people will have 2 back-up masks for their travels on Golden Week.
anon99999
And who gets these masks? How are they distributed? I wonder if we will see Abe with a new mask soon.
Fighto!
Thank you to the citizens of Taiwan! This astonishing gesture I am sure will never be forgotten by the Japanese people. All other nations would stockpile their masks for themself in the middle of a disaster. Not Taiwan, who selflessly wish to save Japanese lives.
I now hope- and believe- that the Japanese gov't will push for full recognition at the UN for the Republic of China when this disaster is over.

Why can't the 3rd largest economy in the world manage the same thing?

Someone teach Aso Taro how to correctly wear a mask.
Hat's off to Taiwan. All the "Good side" of China ended up in Taiwan and all the "Bad side" (read: CCP) ended up in Beijing. Taiwan deserves the full support of the United Nations and every country in the world.

Because unlike Taiwan, which has a specific reason not to rely on China, Japan as well as all the other developed countries foolishly relied on China as a source.

It is not just the quantity... but the key word here is "donated"....
The rest of the world is "buying" from China.
The "difference" is in their "hearts".
It is not the quantity... but their thoughts and intentions... that makes us all appreciate being alive and having "friends".....
Taiwan too still need masks... it is needed till the pandemic ends... so that is what makes humanity "Great !"
Harry_Gatto
On any given day in Japan up to 100 million people may be wearing a mask; 2 million masks, although very welcome, are a drop in the ocean.

Friend indeed! In times of crisis who can really see who your real friends are.

Taiwan ordered companies to start manufacturing face mask way back in December, when the CCP-run WHO was telling everybody that face masks do not work. Taiwan was successful because it ignored the corrupt WHO.

Yea but the masks according to our northern peoples in Aomori City, Akita City, Morioka, Misawa, Towada, Mutso, Hachinohe are not receiving any masks at all. So what's the point if the system is not equally fair to distribute them to all and these outlaying areas get visitors from Tokyo, Yokohama and as far as Osaka.
rgcivilian1
Where are the ones "made in Japan" been now 3 months. Thank you Abe admin and greedy local businesses for not thinking and putting your own first and instead mailed almost the entire stock to China while their infected came here.

@anon9999 & Harry_Gatto
I think you'll find these are not intended for the general public. These masks will go straight into the hospital system where they will be much appreciated by the doctors and nurses putting their lives on the line for the rest of us.

Great gesture of good will. Thank you Taiwan, an admirable country and people.

Taiwan a helpful global citizen and should be recognized now internationally as an independent nation.
Penfold
Thanks Taiwan!!
Paul
No chance! Now that he sent them to every household he has got to wear his one for the rest of his life!!!!
Or he will be shamed for changing to a better one.
Bugle Boy of Company B
Here’s hoping they don’t have bugs like the ones we saw in the news yesterday.

Thank you Taiwan, again doing the right thing while China is selling their to the highest bidder.

Sharp ones went on sale today and the demand crashed their smart devices, too.

Of course, they are owned by a Taiwanese company!
rainyday
It must be embarrassing that the ones from Taiwan are arriving quicker than the Abenomasks, and probably with less dirt on them too.
gogogo
Legit masks and not the children masks left from from Fukushima from Abe!
ulysses
Thank you Taiwan, 2 million times.

Why can't the 3rd largest economy in the world manage the same thing?
They've outsourced too much stuff to China.

I think many Japanese change the masks so frequently. A mask should be used for a few days.
Akie
kokontozai said "A mask should be used for a few days."
Wrong, wrong, and wrong again.
Masks function the same as condoms, no second use, for your safety.
JCosplay
Well, arigato gozaimasu Taiwan for all this great assistance. And this will obviously help Japan out greatly in terms of stopping the spread of this virus. Seriously, good on them for doing this, and with donating mask to other countries as well.
kokontozai
Akie
But Taiwan itself had the rule that their citizens except the medical staffs and the patients could purchase up to two masks per week in February. I think they used a mask for a few days at that time.
kokontozai
p.s.
Taiwanee can purchase up to three masks per week now.
oldman_13
Good for Taiwan, a true friend of Japan for all times.
smithinjapan
Should take them back, given that Abe just donated (not masks, but money) to Yasukuni.
Do the hustle
It is a generous gift. I just wish Asia would stop putting so much focus on face masks to stop the spread of viruses. They don’t do anything to prevent the spread of viruses. Only those who are sick should wear them and if they are sick with Covid-19, they should be in hospital.
Strangerland
This is incorrect. They are not 100% effective at stopping them. It's an illogical conclusion to think that means they are 100% ineffective at stopping them. Claiming they don't do anything to prevent the spread of viruses is the equivalent of saying condoms, which are also not 100% effective, do nothing to prevent the spread of STDs, or do nothing to prevent pregnancies.
And how exactly would one who is a carrier, but asymptomatic, know they are spreading, and therefore know they should be in the hospital? Furthermore (first time I ever used that word), why should someone asymptomatic even be in the hospital?
But you also incorrectly think viruses do nothing to prevent the spread of viruses and you also incorrectly think that everyone who has covid knows they have covid. So while you may wish Asia would stop putting so much focus on this, you've lost a lot of credibility from your incorrect conclusions on a matter about which many scientists have stated conclusions contrary to yours. Personally, that makes me want to put my horse into the 'lets all wear masks' race over the 'masks do nothing' race, and thank Asia for their focus on wearing masks to prevent the spread of viruses.

Taiwan tackled the coronavirus problem well - that's why they can afford to have extra masks sent off to help other countries
